I'm just beginning to wonder whether you're being taken advantage of doubly, because if this person is doing some work training for his job, it's quite possible that he may be being paid a hotel accommodation allowance which he's stuffing into his pocket while you are feeding him for nothing.
Ask him the question. You could say "Name - is there any chance your company would pay you a boarding allowance while you're doing this training because whilst we're happy to have you staying here, we simply can't afford you feed you the amount of meat you seem to need, so I'm afraid it's going to have to be vegetarian from now on or the Bed and Breafast place ! " He might get the message.

And don't let him go shopping with you. If he offers, tell him "No thanks. I can only control my budget if I shop alone".
  • How awful for you, it must be hard to tell a guest that they are being inconsiderate (and greedy). Could you try expressing your concern for his health, and say that smaller portions of meat with extra veg would be better for his health.

If he says he is still hungry give him a starter e.g a slice of melon or some soup.

    Some friend!

    Good luck x

    Debt-free and Proud!
I made a shepards pie last night with 1/12 lbs of mince, I have it for 5 dinners!!!! I would tell him to buy his own food! Well I would have said something a bit stronger then that actually.
Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.
  • Hi

a full cooked breakfast ( a really generous one ) never has more than 2 sausages and 2 rashers of bacon!
    .

Have to say I agree, I used to cook daily for 3 plumbers and an electrican they would all turn up at my house about 10.30 for there breakfast they all could eat a lot and I would do 2 bacon,2 sausages,2 eggs, mushrooms, beans and toast or fried bread and they were all stuffed.

He is being very rude to expect you to foot the bill for his expectations tell him to eat what you are eating or buy it himself if he is staying with you he should eat what you eat, I would never expect anyone to buy things for me even when I go to my friends she doesn't drink coffee so I buy a jar and leave it there for when I go over as I dont like tea but I wouldnt expect her to buy my coffee!

    Goodness me!

This has just decided for me how I will repay the kindness my friend is extending to me next year. The BF and I are planning a big holiday to the US and will be staying with my friend for about 4 days.

I will be going to the supermarket she uses and buying a $100 gift card as a thankyou for inviting us to stay and for feeding us etc.

I wouldn't be inviting your friend to stay again in a hurry.

hun, my oh loves his meat but wouldnt ever dream of eating a whole chicken in one go! his usual portion is a leg and maybe a slice of breast meat. one chicken should feed 4 to 8 people (depending on size.
an 8oz steak is roughly what i get my OH while I prefer a smaller one. he finds this ample.

a nutrionist told my daughter that a persons portion of meat should be about the size of the palm of their hand - so unless your friend has hands like spades he is eating far too much meat.
also.......you are a veggie family, why on earth did you buy meat for him? didnt he know that you were all vegetarians? I personally would NOT expect to eat meat if I was staying with you!
as other posters suggest I would have a quiet word and explain that your food budget does not extend to the amount of meat he eats and if he wishes to eat meat in future, although you would cook it for him, then he will have to buy it himself. I think thats more than fair!
personally, I would tell him go veggie or buy and cook your OWN food! I'm NOT a charity!

I can't believe how rude this man is. Did he eat like this when you stayed at your friends? What size meals did she give you and how much meat did she serve for her family?

As others have said, I would have thought he was getting some sort of allowance for accommodation anyway.
