    Snap!

You can't tell at all how many are in there if you have other things in and it is a thick sauce.

I dont even like bloody sausages, it was just an example :rotfl::rotfl: I think that's very true - if you can be bothered to sit and plan and then stick to it, then life goes a lot more smoothly. But when you let go then it all unravels.. Silly to take these menu things seriously anyway, is just advertising in the end anyway.

  • I try to plan but DD comes in from school or at the weekend when no ones here and eats everything she finds in the fridge whether its ear marked for a meal or not.

Also even with dessert my lot are all big meat eaters OH will have 5/6 good quality sausages, DS will have 4 as will DD and I will have one or two. With Chicken OH will have a leg/thigh and one breast and DD/DS wil share a breas and thight and I will have a drumstick and it doesnt matter how much roasites, yorkshire, stuffing etc I do there is never anyway of making meat go further.

I have to agree with the menu plans a lot of the time, i've tried feeding me, my OH (manual worker) and two boys 11 and 7 and no way did it feed us. I ended up making cakes, bread etc to fill them up, so i gave up and went back to the old ways. I'd rather do that than feed them up with more sugar and carbs.

Instead i bulk things out with veg etc to try and make the pennies and meals stretch.
Oh and sausages, i just chop the things up so no-one knows how many they getting !!!

you'll be alright mar its just the weather getting to you and us all. Wish this blumming wind would go away!

We have 2 sausages each :) When I make a casserole I'll add beans and lentils, then serve with carbohydrate and plenty of fresh veg.

  • Have to say the meal plans seem fine to me. And I'm not a small person, 5'6" and 13.5 stone and a fairly chunky build. I know that if I put a load of food on my plate I'll end up eating it all, but if I dish up small portions that look stingy to me, by the time I'm finished eating I'm perfectly contented and don't want any more. Making a bit too much and deliberately saving some for lunch helps with that too.

If for some reason I'm hungry again soon after, I have some fruit or a small bit of chocolate or something, or a spoonful of peanut butter, or a yogurt. I find that often I'm not really hungry, I just want something. And that's greed rather than need - a small bit of something tricks me into realising I'm not in fact starving to death.

It might be worth just for a few days, trying one of those calorie/nutrient counter websites to see how much you really NEED to eat in terms of protein, etc. I used to use Fitday.com all the time but there are other more non-US-friendly ones. It works out what your requirements are according to your height, weight, activity level and whether you're trying to gain or lose weight. Put in all the food you eat and you'll see easily whether you're eating enough of each nutrient and what you probably should cut down on.

I like the idea of veg making up 1/2 of your meal, and protein and carbs 1/4 each. Although if we're having something high in fat like cheese I make the portion smaller. Tonight we had halloumi cheese with couscous, peppers and courgettes, and we were perfectly happy with 60g of cheese each (1/4 of the packet).
