my oh and ds each have about 3 thick sausages, or a chicken breast each but they are big eaters

I wouldnt class myselff as a big eater but I would eat 2 quorn sausages for my main meal
  • Find we are padding out more with bread these days, even with veggie meals. We would usually have 2 veg sausages each, but I know OH could easily eat 4. An acceptable substitute is Yorkshire pudding!

For a main meal you should get minimum of 4 servings and maximum of 5 servings out of 500g of meat with out bones. This works well with mince.
However if you perhaps use Chicken on the bone then you will need to allow approx 200g per serving.
Obviously some people do eat a bit more and some a bit less.
But that is a good guideline.
So, to make Spaghetti Bolognaise, you will have 500g lean mince. together with tomatoes, onion, and any other vegetables that you choose to add to your recipe; this should then serve 4 or 5 adults.
Don't forget that you should be eating protein of some kind at your other meals. e.g. eggs, cheese, fish, meat. pulses, beans. soya etc and other not so obvious food contain protein, such as cereals.
So for lunches you should only need 50g of protein; if you are having 100g in your main meal.

But yes, I am with you; a couple of sausages isn't a main meal, I would need beans or lentils with them to make up my protein content!

After saying that, some people just don't have enough money to be able to have the recommended amount and do just get by however they can.

I suppose sausages vary wildly in size as do chicken portions. But my OH will eat 4 saus or a whole chicken leg . Saying that, we just have porridge breakfast and a sandwish or soup lunch.. I'm trying to achieve the impossible I think!

Me and my husband use to have 3 sausages each. Now we have two each and that leaves two left over for one more serving. This was served with new pots, green beans, peas, carrots with gravy. But I often serve a dessert as well.

The other day we had upper range supermarket burgers that come in packs of two. One each in a bun with wedges. They not huge but did us fine for a meal.

A meat serving is only suppose to the size of a deck of cards.

Neither me or my husband do physical work. I do an office job and my husband is disabled. And I am over weight.

    Yours

    Calley

How about cooking the sausages, cutting into one inch chunks and adding it to pasta which has a bit of onion, pepper and maybe chilli to give it some zing. I think it's psychological really, but I have to agree that my OH would eat two sausages for breakfast, never mind a main meal!

This doesn't seem excessive to me at all. There must be something wrong with those menu plans . Perhaps they're mouse-portions or something?

Sounds like there's a crisis going on up there in Mardatha-land. Does anyone know her address? Pleas pm me so I can send a sweetie Red-Cross parcel. Thx

Having a horrible few weeks here, please forgive the constant moaning :D
My niggle du jour today is these menu plans that say "meals for two for a week for £18" type thing. I sit and earnestly copy it all out and price it the last pee....and then notice it expects you to dine off 3 sausages or 2 chicken legs.
The RV would probably  & faint if I set one and a half sausages under his nose for a dinner ! What do you all eat at a serving?

Well, it used to be that there were 8 fat sausages to a pound. Quite often they are 6 or 8 to 400g now, especiallly the nice ones. ! I would give OH 2 and I have one if I'm being good. An extra half if I'm being greedy!
