a lb of sausages feeds 4 of us - 3 for dh, 2 each for 13 yo and me and 1 for 4 yo. If I do sausage pasta though I can get away with 4 between us chopped or crumbled up.

I use 350g of boneless meat for 4 of us for a curry/ stir fry/ mince meal

Miles more than most of the so called "meals for 2 or 3" or whatever serve. DH does a manual job most of the time and needs decent portions (in my opinion) and even 2 sausages wouldn't cut it.

If I make sausage casserole I would eat one sausage (or another half if I'm really hungry) and hubby would have probably 3. I don't think it's unreasonable but I do think some of the meal plans aren't at all realistic.

Of course that's just my opinion, no doubt someone will come along and tell me I'm a greedy cow.:D

Nooo lol. I have dh who is also a manual worker- 2 strapping 6 foot+ sons 21 and 17 and daughter who is 13, is I put tiny portions
in front of them it would be 'what the?.... it just wouldn't do lol:D

Yes, same here. It's not moneysaving if he feels hungry an hour and a half after eating and then starts on sandwiches !

Same here, if there is not enough on the plate they will go for other
things later- toast, pasta and sauce, sandwiches, certainly
    not money saving!

i feel a right moany old sow now. LOL - sorry!! I think I've lost my sense of proportion and need to keep the heid. Some of the prob is he cant eat a lot of carbs... and some of the problem is that I havent done a proper shop or menu plan or meal for weeks. Just lost all ooomph. But it will come back cos there's no bloody option. If I did a proper meal with a pudding then I dare say the smaller portions woud be more acceptable. And I think they are making them smaller to get the cost down and promote their eating plans. So need to try to do a sensible well priced menu plan and stop trying to be miss perfect. LOL Am not cut out for it!

Nah you are not moany at all. We all have times where we feel like that.
Recently I have had (suspected) sinusitus, cold, now have lower gum toothache coming and going (awaiting a dentist appt). Some days I just cannot be bothered but I do find life easier if I take the time and plan a little. That said last night we had Tesco curry in a bag (1 chick korma, 1 chick tikka, bombay tatties, pilau rice (big), naan (small)) shared between me, DH and DS. Followed by reduced strawbs (49p) dipped in posh chantilly cream (treat as that plus reduced strawbs was cheaper than the original full price ones I had to start with). Anyway back to sausages, ;), I would have 1, DS 1 and a bit, and DH 3 or so (if average sized). He can eat a whole chicken leg to himself and me and DS would share the breast.
But yeah, don't try to be perfect, just take little steps that can make your life easier in the long run xx

Your lucky it's just the sarnies, mine hits the kids crisps and chocolate biscuits, which I have rationed for the luchboxes.

I find it's better to feed the old boy well and not have him mooching about the kitchen for more nosh in the wee hours.

I tried all the portion control stuff to get his weight and cholesterol down, good god!! he well spat his dummy out. He said if he had to live on such feeble rations he may as well go to the kebab shop and die happy.

So I just do him hearty home cooked which allows me to reduce the fat as much as possible and have a load less earache.:) He's actually lost weight on it too, and his cholesterol is lower.

I dont even like bloody sausages, it was just an example :rotfl::rotfl: I think that's very true - if you can be bothered to sit and plan and then stick to it, then life goes a lot more smoothly. But when you let go then it all unravels.. Silly to take these menu things seriously anyway, is just advertising in the end anyway.

OMG! My OH would think I was trying to starve him if I only gave him two sausages! unless it was with four rashers and two eggs and not to mention the side of mushrooms, tomatoes and fried bread (and occasionally black pudding)!
Sausage and mash means four sausages for him, a mound of mashed potato and a green veg in a moderate serving and loads of onion gravy!
One reason we dont do ready meals is that the portions are soooooo measly!
    ********************************************

My DH does a manual job, Garden & Home Maintenance, and so needs feeding to give him the energy to perform.
4 sausages are minimum requirements to 'stoke his boiler'...any less and there would be an uproar :rotfl:

The RV would probably  & faint if I set one and a half sausages under his nose for a dinner ! What do you all eat at a serving?

I have made sausage casserole before just using 3 sausages between the two of us and it was fine. I grill the sausages first then slice them thinly before putting in the casserole dish.

You are supposed to cook it in the oven but I put it on low in the microwave for half an hour or so.

I did use a sausage casserole mix though to which you add and onion and a tin of beans.

We had it with mash and peas and it was more than enough.

I buy the Goldenfry casserole mix from B&M, 3 packets for £1.

I cheat by cutting sausages into chunks. That way hubby & son don't realise how many they are eating:rotfl:

I use sausgaes in i tomato, onion, pepper & mushroom sauce with pasta
I use chopped sausages in onion gravy with mash & veg.

    Snap!

You can't tell at all how many are in there if you have other things in and it is a thick sauce.

    :D
