I don't suppose you want any courgettes; we are having courgettes with every meal at the moment; that'd learn him..:D
I'd just menu plan for veggie meals - if he doesn't like it perhaps a B&B would be better for him....best get some brochures in or leave the yellow pages open at B...0 -
I feel a wee bit sorry for MRSTITTLEMOUSE's houseguest, we are all giving the man pelters, with no course of redress. I hope you aren't feeling a bit embarressed by all the attention this thread is bringing either MRST. We obviously don't mean to make you feel foolish or silly

Hi
I agree with all the previous comments and cant believe how much is being eaten.
MrsT you must be an angel to control your tongue so well and I wish you well in sorting it.
I've used this link in the past for portion control - hope it helps you

I agree with the other posters.
I think OP is a very kind person who is being ripped off by a greedy s*d.
If his company is sending him away for training they are paying him overnight expenses.
The minimum I know of is £25 per night when staying with friends and goes into £100+ per night for accommodation in London.
It is intended to pay for food, room and perhaps an additional newspaper.
He is a pig. Could you tell him that you have reconsidered your position and that you will no longer cook meat meals for him. If he wants to eat meat in meals he should eat out at lunchtime (is the training centre providing lunch?) or provide his own evening meal.
Or as thers have said, start reducing the amount of meat - if he complains, explain that he eats beyond what is normal and you can't pay for his excesses.
I think he's pocketing a fortune.:mad:Sealed Pot challenge 2011 member 1051 - aiming for £365

if confrontation is going to be too much, with the family connections etc., perhaps another way - if he's going to this training by car - just say to him - oh, we're eating our usual vegetarian for the next few nights - on the way home can you pick up whatever meat you want if you want meat. As it's just for him it would be very difficult for him to take offence or say - OK, where's the money!0

Well I thought I'd update you all since you've all been kind enough to offer me so much helpful advice.
When he came in from work last night I said "vege chilli ok for you ,I thought it might be a nice healthy change since you've eaten so much meat these past few days".He did'nt look pleased went up for a shower and came down and said he thought he'd get something when he went out so not to bother for him.
I plucked up the courage at that point to say that whatever he fancied he just had to bring in and I'd be happy to cook it for him, making the excuse that since we don't eat meat here I'm useless at knowing what to buy.He was a bit quiet at breakfast but I feel/am hoping he may have taken the point.
I intend to do vege again tonight since after reading all the replies I feel rather empowered :rotfl:.
Actually this lad is'nt that huge,he's 16 stone but tall and as my mother would say must have "hollow legs" since he can certainly put the food away but does'nt seem to show it.
It's been hard having to deal with this problem since I've known his mother since before he was even born and money in his family has never been an issue so his mother never needed to budget.
My husband says he thinks he just assumes that since we don't eat meat he assumes any meat in the house is for him and is fair game. That's true but the chicken episode the other evening realy annoyed me I thought it was pretty disgusting actually.
I still have this image of him in my head ripping away at that chicken carcass, after eating a whole dinner.
I just could'nt believe my eyes or his cheek.
If it had'nt been for you ladies giving me advice and support I would'nt have had the courage to do anything as I realy was afraid I was just being mean and petty.
A big thankyou to all,now I've just got to keep it up for the next few weeks:eek:
I'll let you know how it goes.0 -
OMG - if this is what he's used to then he's storing up health problems for later in life.
Pasta is very filling...
Well done for making a stand. I can't afford that much meat for a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teens & toddler) so can well understand how your shopping bill has doubled. Sounds like this boy needs re-educating.Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.

Well, being quiet will do him some good. Perhaps it is finally dawning on him that he has completely abused your hospitality and that you are no longer going to bow down to his demands for meat. He has probably realised how greedy he is being. I suspect he has also realised he will have to use his expenses to actually buy some food. Well done on saying your piece. You are still offering him a meal and if he chooses not to accept that then its up to him.0

He has without doubt taken advantage of your hospitality, which can happen, even with "friends". I would have to categorise this "friend" as a "glutton", because they are huge portions of meat.
Both my wife and I are overweight, but we would eat a fraction of what you have described. For example, roast chicken, we cook a 1.5 kilo bird, and then share one breast and one leg, leaving the rest for salads and sandwiches. If we have steak, then 4 to 6 ounces is the norm.
If I had a guest, then they would have to eat what they were given (unless they had special dietary requirements).
How long is he staying for, why not make him contribute to his food supply?
We are meat eaters & like big portions, but I think your friend is taking the mick.
1. I would be happy to eat the same food as my host. Carnivores eat vegetables too;)
2. a portion to me is 8 oz of meat off the bone or a 1lb on the bone. Sounds like he's eating in excess of double that.
3. two of each for breakfast is more than ample.0 -
16 stone is fat no matter what your height. Big lad doesn't come into it - he's obese, simple as. And if he can down a whole chicken, no wonder!0
