Savings Log of a 26yr old on low pay

bendix - Yes I recognise that feeling. When you' start your working life, everybody around you seems to be so much richer and affluent and it's easy to be envious. For some reason, you often forget that it's taken a lifetime of earning and savings for people to get to that point. Few people are fortunate enough to start their working lives from an affluent base. But it does illustrate the point that a prudential financial attitude gets you there in the end - I remember all those lovely childrens' books of proverbs. - I always resonated towards the one about the race between the Hare and the Tortoise.0

I reached that, and then suddenly the aspiration was to have £500 savings. It seemed an impossible target, until I reached it and refocused on £1000, and then £5,000 etc etc.
Well, you get the idea.
What happened to those 20 years, I wonder?
Too busy putting in the extra hours bendix!0 -
Thanks! Hearing about people that started off from where I am now and got to where they are really inspires me. I guess it's a case of digging my heels in and getting my head down for now and the rest will fall into place...in time.
I've started a spending log today - just a note of everything I spend money on daily and the total spent. At the end of the week I will look back over what I've spent and nit pick what was needed and what wasn't. I think that looking at this will motivate me to tighten my spending further...especially when I see the total amount of money wasted each week.
Working tomorrow again 8 - 2.30, which will mean 10 hours overtime done this week. Looking forward to my pay packet next week!
Still waiting for my contract to arrive - that should be next week
So thats 2 things to look forward to. Not much but something.
I am going to allow myself a McDonalds lunch at work tomorrow because I'm too knackered to make a pack up.
Oh yeah, got £151.92 built up in my current account towards helping me convert to monthly pay, so getting there bit by bitTotal in ISAs = £8,863.500 -

Mloneysaver - yes, you are doing incredibly well and the fact that you're putting yourself through this financial discipline is a sure sign that you're on the right road for the future. I think you're right though, just to give yourself some small treats occasionally, otherwise the haul can sometimes feel overwhelmingly dreary. Keep it up!0

Have you ever looked into some of the easy quidco offers, or even the GIOL thread on here, especially dongle's post which really inspires a lot.0

Congratulations on paying off your debts and now saving for your future. My nan always told me as a child spend a bit & save a bit, which she and I are now instilling into my children.***Dont save what is left after spending, spend what is left after saving***0

Thanks guys.
After the amount of hours I've put in at work this week I'm absolutely cream crackered and as a result have decided to stay in tonight. That will mean more money savedAnd no hangover tomorrow :rotfl:
Put the lottery on today so got my fingers crossed for a big win! 4 million will do me nicely.
Got a great deal in Asda earlier - 4 big packets of chocolate digestives for £3 if anyone wants to check that out. Plenty of dunking to do there in my cuppa tea's! Also got 2 packs of Asda home brand ham for my pack ups next week - £3 aswell.
Put £10 credit on my mobile which is on o2 - get 300 free texts per month and a 'surprise' which turned out to be 20 mins free uk calls to any uk network mobile to use before Sunday night...so rang my mum up for a chit chat.
Got a can of Fosters in my room and a bottle of wine that I have been looking at, hmmm....Total in ISAs = £8,863.500 -
Fantastic work MoneyWaster2007 (more like MoneySaver2007!) :j
It's really inspiring and heartwarming to read your posts, you put so much effort into squeezing the most out of your income.
I wish you all the best in the future, keep going and you will have a nice sum built up eventually :T0 -
Moneywaster, there's a slow cooker on offer in Asda at the moment if you can afford it - it's £7 which is a great price. You'll save that in no time by using it to make casseroles and stews in the Autumn/Winter months
