well done on your perseverance! Like the rest of us, you will not be becoming an overnight millionaire on your savings with current interest rates but just think back to when you were in debt and reflect how far you've travelled! :T0

Thanks! Kind of wish I'd started saving like 10 years ago...better late than never thoughTotal in ISAs = £8,863.500

Truly stunning achievement, mw - and all the more praiseworthy that you are powering on through these Hellish times.
I'm sure you can make the imaginitive horror leap to the situ of many who HAVEN'T learnt your lessons, but are now having to....
Nowadays, you must be thanking your lucky stars that you faced up to your challenges when you did and to see such good results. Even better, the savings, debt-free habit is firmly anchored in you, for good.
Any chance of taking lunch to work - hard-boiled eggs, bread, raw or microwaved fruit something, left-over curry or similar - all delish the next day and much better for you.
Well done, all over again. mw.CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:

Thanks ampersand, re the packed lunch - great idea btw - I haven been taking packed lunches to work for a long time as it's such a good way to save cash
...the interest rate on savings seems to be getting even worse, will they release some decent rates when it's approaching April 6?Total in ISAs = £8,863.500 -
'......as it's such a good way to save cash' - and you know what you put in it![and it wasn't galloping about beforehand]
mw- it may sound odd if I talk about Waitrose to you, pointless too, if you haven't a nearby Branch.
Please get a My Waitrose card here:
http://www.waitrose.com/content/waitrose/en/home/mywaitrose/mywaitrose_welcome.html
Apart from some brilliant bargains near closing and the chance to win all sorts of bits, the pleasure of sitting down in their cafe area with a free drink daily+ little shortbread disc[cappuccino for me]and reading the papers[not buying them!]is a good free pause in a nice space.
In the last fortnight: 23 items came to 81p the other day! This is because Waitrose offers and promo's kick in,EVEN ON REDUCED ITEMS. This means things can be free, or you are paid to take them. My paid-to-buy examples so far this week: 20 avocado pears, broccoli spears, more hot cross buns[Heston Blumenthal and Waitrose' own]and some 3-for-2 meat, proper meat, from Waitrose farms. Also had 18p per kg bananas, 50p per kg Pink Lady apples and Orchestra potatoes@ 35p per kg. Pains au chocolat, croissants, pains aux raisins[all of which I adore] - all rtc 7p. You can freeze just about anything and I do.
Pick up their Weekend newspaper in stands near the entrance/at check-outs, turn to the inside back page for that week's special offers. These are the ones to look out for on reduction, because those same offers will apply. This does not happen at Tesco's.
Show your card every time for a 1p reduction, then feed in your receipt details online at home to enter for the cost of a month's shopping/£500 back.
I sometimes do this, too:
From Monday 5 November buy a Daily Telegraph, Daily Mail or Scottish Daily Mail in store, spend over £5 and we’ll take £1.20, 55p or 50p respectively off your shopping.
How do I get money off my shopping?
Simply pick up your copy of the Daily Telegraph, Daily Mail or Scottish Daily Mail, spend over £5 and show your myWaitrose card if paying at a manned checkout. We will then automatically take £1.20, 55p or 50p respectively off your shopping.
I happily play Waitrose and Tesco to my own best advantage. Tesco's Market Value items - oranges for example - were staples, but they've stopped these and many others. Sunday afternoon at Waitrose is proving a super hunting ground for me.
Hope you can do this too, mw. You're doing everything else so well.
There won't be anything much better on interest until the next Election, I'd say.
I keep a running minimum with £300 o/d[rarely touched and no interest charged on first £100 anyway]in my Natwest. I have their e-account that I really try to hoard every other penny in. Even if I need petrol, as yesterday, I simply tfr £20 online back for this, w/d it at Tesco, put it onto my Clubcard+ a/c @ customer services desk, then over to get my petrol and extra points.
All much quicker, simpler to do than it sounds written out here.
Sadly, Clubcard+ a/c's aren't available at present[they may come back] - it gives me double points on everything and I use them for restaurant, ferry, YHA/SYHA, Senior Railcard, RHS membership. gift magazine subscriptions...all sorts of things I'd never lay out real money for.
Do you have a passport yet, mw? It helps me, even to look at mine and know I have it to flit off, in my mind, if not always in reality.CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:

Congratulations to you too Jox - 'Happy to have paid my credit card and loan debts off (2012)' and hope mw doesn't mind this mini hijack of his Thread:-)
The avocado worked thus:
Pks of 2 Perfectly Ripe, organic '[STRIKE]1.99[/STRIKE] rtc 69p,BUT, promo 2 for £2.50[instead of £3.98=reduction of £1.48]against 2x69p=£1.38 paid. Thus was I paid 5p for each pk taken.
