Thanks for all the replys, a few of them have been very very helpfull.

1st thing tomorow im going to try and ring my consultant at the orthopedic, explaine to him whats happend and ask him if he would kindly write a report for me, when i ring and get in touch with either his secratary or himself, do i need to ask for him to report on anything spercific? or will he be used to doing reports like this, reason i ask is iv never gone into much detail on how it effects my daily life, but i have of course told him my hip is constantly painfull etc and i also told him i left work over 2 years ago because of my hip. it was only apriill this year i seen him last where i told him how bad it was and he asked me himself " do you feel you need a hip replacement at this moment in time"? i told him it was a very difficult and big dession to make and he agreed and told me as im still relativley young and as hip replacements only last around 10 years and the fact that they get more tricky to do once you have already had one he said you should wait untill you cant bare the pain anylonger but has always said if you want the operation you just have to say. they xray me every 12months and compare the old xrays and its the same hopistal i spent alot of time in and had operations in as a child for my perthes disease to they have lots of records about me.

in aprill this year he also prescribed me tramadol hydrochloride for my hip pain, i think thats says something alone

If i could get a report from him intime before i send the letter i think that could very well turn over the dession if not i think it could take a while :o

anybody know how long it would take to get a report from a consultant?

Tramadol isnt a strong pain killer so I wouldnt count on being perscribed it as a big deal, most GPs give it out like smarties.

You have had some good advice on this thread, I would follow it but I cant believe that you got HRC if you only have hip pain in the first place especially if you have only now been prescribed pain killers.

I was refused a hip replacement from the age of 30 till 39 when i became unable to walk at all but both my hips are knackard plus my whole spine and other disabilities, I do know some people who were given replacements and resurfacing pre 40 but its rare and since you havnt given your age I cant give you any further advice about it.

In the meantime the benefits are stopped, if you do get to the tribunal and the decision is reversed you will only get the benefit back dated for 3 months, even if you have been waiting for up to 2 years, this is a new ruling.

I rang the DLA dept as soon as i read your post as i have an appeal going through for my son at the moment, they assured me they know nothing about it, and it would involve a change in the regulations.

I am sure this was posted in good faith but until things like this can be proved it just causes a great deal of worry for people awaiting an appeal.

I tried to call my consultants secratary this morning and i was told she is away on sick leave and that i will need to request a report from my consultant in writting.

That may delay things slightly more but im not sure :o, on the plus side writing him a letter would be better than just having his secratary jot down i need a report doing as this way i can tell him exatcly how it effects me.

Im not very good at letter writing, has anybody got any advice on how i should start it and how i could word things?

Absolutely, look at the need to write a letter as a positive. You could write something along the following:

    Dear Mr Consultant,

Further to my telephone call on 24th August, I would be grateful if you could provide a letter in support of my appeal against the refusal of my DLA renewal.

As you are aware, my condition greatly affects my mobility and also leads to me having care needs. I feel that I am affected in the following ways:

(Use bullet points to describe each way that you are affected.)

I am very grateful for your assistance.

    Yours sincerely,

    how does this sound?

    Dear Mr ****

I am writing to you to kindly request a medical report in support of a application for disability living allowance which was turned down, i would be very grateful if you would confirm my diagnosis,my likely disability's and future expectations.

I feel my hip effects me in the following ways

    blah

    blah...

I feel that its vital i highlight these things to give a a clear indication of how my hip is effecting me and i would be grateful if you would kindly give your opinion on my condition.

I appreciate you are a very busy man and I'm far from being a high priority but if you are able to find the time to do write this report for me i would be very grateful as i need to send a copy to the department of work and pensions by the 19/09/2010

I'm sorry to hear they've stopped your DLA, but it seems to be happening routinely at the moment.

I had mine stopped at renewal earlier this year, and sent off the GL24 (appeal request form) along with a spare copy of all the evidence I had previously sent them, in case it had been 'lost', a few pieces of extra evidence, like a 7 day diary of my needs, and I chased up my GP to fill out they report they had requested, but didn't wait for before making their decision.

I had my DLA reinstated at reconsideration. Apparently, if you appeal, they automatically send it for reconsideration, so many feel you should request an appeal straight off, so that if you fail at that stage, wheels are already in motion for your appeal, which takes much longer.

It is worth getting a report from your GP. If they don't know you it doesn't matter, as they use your medical records to answer the questions. You could go and see them about it.

Weirdly, when my DLA was reinstated one of the things they used was an old medical that they had done on me in 2004! Not that I was going to argue, when it went in my favour!

im going to ring my surgery tomorrow morning and see if i can get an appointment to see my gp .

i will just explain i need a medical report to support my dla application. what exactly is a medical report do gps and consultants have some kind of spreadsheet with questions on they use or do they just give their opinions in their own words?

This is really making me feel ill, i dont want to tell my partner as i dont want to upset her, so im bottling all this up inside, iv not been able to eat or sleep last night i kept waking up in cold sweats, and iv told my other half i just feel ill :-( i feel like crying i really dont need this extra stress i havent felt so low in a very long time.

You can just ask your GP for a letter stating you can only walk x amount of meters, you have problems doing this and that, etc.

As sh1305 says, just get them to do a letter outlining your probs. I think you have care needs as well? Get them to outline the care you need as well.

The report I mentioned was a questionnaire the DWP sent to my GP, with all sorts of questions. My old GP phoned and asked me about anything she didn't know the answer to, but my new GP just went by my medical records as I was too ill to attend my GPs at the time.

The more evidence you can get, the better. If you have anyone else you can ask, like a physiotherapist, get a letter from them too. Good luck!

Its not true that DLA is stopped routinely at the moment, they are just applying the regs as they are meant to be and that means that some people who have wrongly gotten DLA in the past will be refused on renewal (not meaning the op or any other MSE'er but we all know someone whos taking the P), if your DLA is stopped appeal and go to tribunal if needs be, if that fails you can appeal on a point of law and go to the european court.
