Maggots!

  • Honestly, some people are unbelievable and think everyone is a scammer or a con-artist. What a sad way to live. To be honest, I would have thrown them further than my bin - the thought of those little things crawling around anywhere near my property would have disgusted me. Hope your letter works :)

  • You may need to retrieve the packagaing so Tesco can get the supplier code from the bag to see if anyone else who purchased the same batch has experienced the same trauma.

Thanks guys. You're all lovely. Quite disturbing - when I phoned tesco and they refunded me the money, they didn't even ASK what batch number or anything, so they can't have taken them off the shelves. feel a bit sick now.

  • Ugh, I feel sick reading this thread - I'm far too squeamish!

Its perfectly understandable you just chucking the stuff. I'm amazed you had the composure to then handle a posh dinner afterwards to be honest.

I hope you get what you asked for, it seems reasonable to me, and if your batch was infested like that then the chances are other ones were too, so they must be aware there is a problem?

Eugh Mirtos that is horrid! I want to scrub my kitchen from top to bottom after reading it so god knows how you feel. I definitely wouldn't have let the little blighters hang around till I took them back. Good luck with your claim.

  • I have a friend who has to put a sign on her bin that says "We had rice, stupid!" otherwise she opens her bin sees the rice & freaks out at the maggots. I think you've described her worst nightmare in this post.

I think you should definitely try, leaving off the chocolates/flowers point & see if guests will provide testimony if required.
Still wish I could buy a TARDIS instead of a house!

Could I suggest that at the very least, you should offer remuneration for the restaurant dinner, some Tesco vouchers, and a box of chocolates and bunch of flowers for my own distress?

Don't want much do you?!

I'd couldn't do that if it were me, especially with having no proof at all.

You do have the receipt from the restaurant as proof you had to eat out?

    Hello!

I believe you. You go for it.

    Just wanted to say that!

    Totally agree with snaggles!

It is very worrying that tesco didn't make any attempt to check the batch of rice and hopefully stop similar happening to other customers.

There was someone on here (sorry can't remember who) who had a major problem with her bank (the bank's fault) and she wrote a strongly worded letter of complaint and suggested that flowers or chocolates might be appropriate. Very soon she received a refund for the error and a bunch of flowers, so it is not unreasonable to make such a suggestion.

I think your letter is great and I hope tesco take the problem seriously after receiving it. Do send it recorded delivery won't you?! I personally wouldn't mention the cost of the meal or anything, I'm sure they'd rather offer an overestimate to stay in your good books!

What you're asking is not a scam, businesses want to keep their customers happy and loyal at (almost) any cost and we have a right to expect high standards of service. If I were working for tesco customer service I'd be offerring you a lot more than a refund in the hopes that you didn't publicise the story!

Let us know what the response is!!! :T

That was me!!! I was so angry at the bank! They were more than willing to agree and it made me realise that it wasn't such an unreasonable request, so have deided to always add it to my complaints (where appropriate obviously) where the mistake/problem has caused me serious hassle, as a little treat like that can make you feel much better. IYSWIM!I'll let you know about the response - I sent the letter of special delivery, so they can't pretend they didn't get it!
