Mirtos wrote:Just to clarify - I contacted tesco and they acknowledged the problem and refunded the cost of the rice - I'm writing a letter AS WELL because I don't think a £1.80 refund is good enough for maggots in my kitchen. (doesn't it say that in the letter?)
The meal was home made thai green curry and rice, so would have been a bit crap without the rice! :rotfl:
I think if it was me I would have done exactly the same! You have something disgusting and unexpected in your hand you drop it, it’s instinct! And I certainly wouldn’t have left swiggly maggots on my floor! What a horrible experience, they would have been out of the house in seconds!
And I think your right, a refund is NOT good enough, they should have offered you compensation.
However I am now concerned that I may have cooked and eaten maggots in the past _pale_All comments and advice given is my own opinion and does not represent the views or advice of any debt advice organisation.

They're good for you. High in protein and nutrients.

Hi Mirtos, your letter is great.
I'd add a couple of points - the store and date where you purchased them, and the fact that the store refunded your money. You should also raise in the letter if the customer service staff at the store took all the details you could recollect about the purchase date. It raises an interesting question - have Tesco's sought to find out as much as they can in order to remove the risk to other consumers? If not, you should highlight that as a concern in your letter.
Also state the restaurant you took your friends too, the date and how much the bill was.
I feel it is perfectly reasonable to ask for flowers and choccies too.0 -
As maggots do not eat rice, only rotting flesh, the mind boggles at what else was in the batch of rice!0

mybe if they are still in your bin you could take a photo to go with your letteri cant slow down i wont be waiting for you i cant stop now because im dancing0

Mirtos that is grim, no two ways about it, best of luck with your letter, I thought it was very well written and its true that if you don't say what your after you will only be offered some mediocre voucher and after an experience like that you should be well entitled to some chocs and flowers too !VIRGIN CC [STRIKE] £648.87[/STRIKE]PAID OFF 08-09-09 :j

Hi Mirtos
Go for it!! You've got nothing to lose but the cost of a stamp. Have you still got the receipt from the restaurant you had to go to?
To be honest if I found maggots in anything then I would freak out and chuck them in the bin, I would then scrub whatever room I found them in from top to bottom to ensure that I didn't suddenly see one crawling around somewhere and then I would go for a bath!!!
My first thought would not be 'oh, I must get these little darlings to Tesco ASAP'!!! - I certainly would go back into the bin to scoop them out!!! :rotfl:
I believe you Mirtos and think the letter is fine, like you say if you don't let them know what you expect back in compensation then you might get some 25p off rice voucher or something!!
Let me know how you get on
