I do think there is an issue tho', I too took my bike test back in pre what have you days, 1970 I think before I passed my car test.
I'm still here, but having rode Triumph 6 and 750's producing 40 ish bhp. 40 years later I can go out and take of on a Hayabusa, (never going to happen

The system is not quite correct, more born again bikers bite the dust than learners.;)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

True - I rode a Ural wolf for 2 years to get used to riding again before getting on the TL1000R and still found the TL hairy.
Saw a Hayabusa GSXR1300 the other week in a shop, if I win the lottery it will be less hairy than the current one but I might retire to a BMW instead. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

LOL, these posts remind me of my moped days. I remember the first time I drove to work on the moped on a freezing cold day, ice on the visor, hands numb with cold even with leather gloves, wearing thick trousers over my skirt! , as I got off the moped, I thought on no, Im peeing myself but it was the blood rushing round my lower limbs, pmsl, as they defrosted.
As for using the bike for going out - remember that when you get anywhere your hair will be flattened, you will have marks where the helmet has been and your make up will look like Alice Cooper.
I HAD to use the moped to get and keep a job as we lived in the country with no public transport but I was very glad when I passed my car test

For goodness sake, spend more than 50 quid on a helmet! It's the most important piece of equipment you will wear, and it's going to protect the only brain you've got.
Get a proper helmet (AGV, Caberg, or Arai, if you can afford it!). Take out a small loan, and pay at least 150 quid. At least. Honestly, apart from safety, they will be a LOT more comfortable. I've had a few cheap helmets (in my silly youth) and now that I've worn an Arai, I'll never go back.0 -

Agreed! I had a rather nasty smash in my £400 Shark Foggy Rep (back in the day) - the helmet was mashed, and so was my wrist, but my head was fine!
Scooters are fun, and ideal for small commutes and getting about, cheap to fill and easy to park. Not for the motorway though, definatley not!
I have a full bike license (i'm a girl too) and have been riding on and off for 11 yrs now, since I was 16 yrs old. Had scooters, little two stroke replica's, 600cc, and 1000cc Ducati's, but even I'm considering a little scoot to get me to the train station and back now that I don't have a car anymore.
The winter is horrible though, and you need a Plan B for the worst days!
I remember riding into the villiage on a Gilera Runner 180 and dropping it 3 times within half a mile, it was just so icy lol.. the bike was fine though!9/70lbs to lose

They are all tested to the same standard, the only difference is weight, vents, wind noise and "features" such as removal cheek pads.
Safety wise, they'll all save you in the same way.
Saying that I do own an Arai0 -
The better the helmet the better it fits and usually this will mean the better protection it offers.
Also, I think the better helmets have a much better use of materials in their construction and will protect your head better.

Blimey, you're a little ray of sunshine!
Yes riding a scooter/moped/motorbike carries a higher risk of injury than driving a car, but then driving a car carries a higher risk of injury than flying, and I don't imagine you're giving up the car to buy a Cessna, are you?
