I'd just like to add, with regard to the girl's blog, that for the last month we have played with this - discussed it, researched it, got excited over latest developments and fought it out with Jezza on FB - and completely lost sight of the fact that there were victims.
Thanks for your response. However , it's the very fact that there are "victims" other than the one SuzyB thinks there is, that made people respond to this case as they did. Saying that people lost sight of that is IMO a nonsense.

It's not a game, it's real with real people, real problems and two lives ruined, one maybe forever. For all the writing, all those posts, what have we achieved? Nothing, that's what; we've made Jezza and Suze's life a little difficult and that's about it. Meanwhile there has been real suffering. One chance to actually, physically make a bit of difference - one chance in all this to show that we weren't just here for the titilation factor and that we do give a damn. One chance to actually DO something.
You are getting overexcited: you cannot be the Nobre family's personal saviour. There is a fine line between being supportive, speaking up when something appears to be wrong/misrepresented but I'd disagree with you on what may or may not have been "achieved". Over twenty thousand views of this thread, links on other websites, articles and links back by Nearly Legal and Tessa Shepperson. Letters written to GMTV, OFCOM, the Argus ...what Jezza gets, and you don't seem to, is a method of publicising things known as "seed marketing".

Challenging the status quo, or other people's presentation of the status quo is important.

Whilst I understand what others are saying, the privacy argument does not stack up: The girl started her blog to talk about this, she is reaching out, she made it public. Her posts make it clear she is seeking support and acceptance and she is delighted by the responses she gets. Anyone who knows teenage girls will not see getting in touch as intrusion, they thrive on feedback because to be a teenage girl is all about insecurity and looking to others for validation.
Now you can speak for all teenage girls?

Some people will always do nothing, it's a really safe option and a personal choice.
If people choose not to follow your personal route it does not mean they are doing nothing. Some people will always wade in further/overstep the mark, on the spur of the moment.

I know teenagers frequently reach rock-bottom because the world is against them and I know a few words of support can make a difference which is why I have written and have no regrets about having done so. You have to make your own decisions.
You're absolutely right, it is a personal decision and a few words of support can indeed make a difference to * some* teenagers but, equally, there are teenagers who may view it as stalkerish.

Both Ms Noble and her daughter clearly use the 'net - I've no doubt that since August's events they will have googled (a) themselves and (b) Ms Butler, in which case Tessa's blog, NLs and this thread will have popped up.

My view remains that we should not have posted up the full contents of her page, that we should not have linked direct to it either. She is a minor and we're saying "here's the contact info for a vulnerable young woman, read the thread for more background - internet freaks feel free to get in touch.

    Not for me, ta.

If there was any fairness in this world, from my view, Suzy Butler would be in court facing a record claim for damages.

BTW - very good post PSB. I won't be making any contact, because for me that is her own private space/blog, she's young.. hammered by all this experience of her mother being labelled a squatter, pressured to get out of house quick, nation told of debt they supposedly owe (which is seemingly heavily built up by £15 a day late rent fees).

I couldn't trust myself not to overload in any message, for what her and her mum have been through... and that wouldn't be right. Also apart from the nearlylegal blog... I wouldn't know where to start if they/mother were to go about making a claim. They've also been hammered, and I'm not surprised if they have little appetite seeking justice. Can imagine headlines in the Argus/GMTV. "Squatter Sues Homeowner" and the angry replies from the public. My heart goes out to her though. Sounds like you made contact in a very friendly, balanced and polite way, for someone of her age group.

Dopester, I have thought about this a lot - the risk of a backlash if the Nobres take action, but it is unlikely as any case would centre around the harassment charge and as both Argus and GMTV were complicit in the harassment and now know it, I doubt they would touch it with a bargepole. I suspect there would already be a case to answer against both of these, would they really want to risk making it worse with a litigious tenant and (hopefully) a keen solicitor who knows his stuff?

Civil cases are private up until a court date; if Butler had any sense or decent legal advice, for the sake of her ruined reputation and her pet wage-paying charity, she would not only keep her trap shut but settle well before court ( or get Daddy to do it). She doesn't want any facts out there, God forbid! The Nobres have a good case, an excellent case probably, and I can't see any reason they should not proceed with it.

Besides, I think the world has moved on, yesterday's news and all that?

Edit: it has just occurred to me that publicity is a double edged sword; in Ms Nobre's position the opportunity to set the record straight and clear her name might be very welcome, in fact it might be her only option after what Butler has done.

    She signed it too.

Her signature has been deleted but Mary remains. Come on Jezza, think about it.

She's recently shacked up with her fella, Joe Blobs.
  • Bonkers Butler seems to have found kin. A Thanks to Mike Stimpson on her blog. Seems like he has got his own form for throwing a tantrum when things don't go his own way.

He lost that when in front of a judge because he could supply any worthwhile evidence. Take note, Suzy

I saw a signature from Hugh Must-be-joking Age 99 Location Away with the fairies.

It's good the issue of tenant harassment and illegal eviction pops up when anyone googles Suzy, the landlord law blog is quite high but the nearly legal and this thread are much lower.

I don't blame him for not wanting to be absorbed into a much arger national association. Then you have to rely on them & toe their line.

"Or in other words, Mr Stimpson wanted to hang on to control of the SPLA at all costs. Presumably this is because if the merger went ahead he would lose the position of spokesperson for landlords which he has enjoyed in the past, as the NLA have their own people for this."
