Saw that, couldn't be bothered, not worth a mention.

After being strung along for weeks.

Actually I'd welcome such a scheme. It'll fast become known as the list for long-term good tenants of LLs to avoid.

Of course for such a scheme the accidental LL would first have to acknowledge to themselves they are a business with legal implications and do research first to realise they'd need to put themselves on list to begin with.
Tightening of rules can work both ways, & make it much more difficult for the ignorant Suzy B's & all the other mickey mouse amateurs.

Be careful what you wish for.

Compulsory registration of all landlords, as in Scotland and tighter regulation.

This will blow-up in their face as it is realised their own ignorance & incompetence caused their problem.

THE SOLUTION: registration & regulation of all landlords. :rotfl:

And the last wall post by a 'supporter' is now dated 23rd August. Everything else has been deleted and there doesn't seem to have been any more activity on the 'lack of freedom of speech' discussion board either.

The silence speaks volumes doesn't it??

    Game over I do believe.

even though I'm not a member of their little 'group', I've still been able to confirm that I WON'T be attending the petition launch tomorrow.

So far, 1 is maybe attending, and 3 are NOT attending.:T

Wonder if those numbers are going to rise and if anyone is soft enough to confirm that they will be attending??

Petition to register & regulate all ignorant & amateur landlords would be better.

They're making the money, they should be better controlled.

Stepping away from their FB page , I found it disappointing is that LandlordZone (whose forum members have commented on Suzy B's actions) had chosen to run with this headline for an article by one of LLZones "partners", LL Action.

LLZ's Tom Entwhistle and Mr Shamplina *should* be aware that Ms Nobre was not in fact a squatter and, indeed, Mr S refers to her as a T in th earticle itself. I suspect that Mr Shamplina's firm has had a good return on his offer of free help for Ms Butler, but using tawdry "shock headlines" which embellish the truth of the situation falls under the heading of "unprofessional" IMO.

The same "Horrific Squatter case" phraseology then gets picked up by people like the ladies that lunch over on Netmums. Anyone on here a member and feel like expanding their knowledge base for them?

Then there is http://www.housingnews.co.uk/southeast/dailynews.asp?week=09/08/2010#H278366 and this

They could have more accurately headed that press release with "LL Action offers help to horrifically ignorant amateur LL" , but clearly that wouldn't tap into the right set of fears

Philip Rainey QC & Tanfield Chambers were dismissed in the nearlylegal article.

Very poor quality debate, explanation of law & checking of facts all round.

This is the place to be, this is where the action is ! :T

In its current form, over at NL :):
(The barrister, Philip Rainey QC, is not as clear as could be wished for on the question about homelessness and council rehousing, to be honest, but then Tanfield Chambers aren’t noted for their expertise in homelessness. If only GMTV had asked about leasehold enfranchisement… But he otherwise does pretty well indeed in the face of some ridiculous posturing from the anchors).
I liked the Tanfield Chambers' line "The story ......met with an overwhelming response after being reported by GMTV." which could be read either way;)

Yes, and that's the point: having some balancing respond posts on any of these other " I've swallowed the tent story" places online helps set the story straight

It's also worth reading that post by Ben on harassment linked to early in the above blog post. Looking at the chronology I think it's amazing how soon after serving her first valid notice Suzy Butler kicked off her media onslaught:

    6th February: Start of tenancy.
25th May: Contract extended to add 6th July - 5th August.
6th June: Alleged first missed rent payment (for the period 6th June - 5th July).
6th July: Alleged second missed rent payment (for the period 6th July - 5th August).
7th July: A section 8 should have been served on second missed payment but wasn't.
28th July: "Letter for tenant for eviction" asking tenant to vacate within 5 days.
5th August: Suzy removes a tent and mattress from the house. The police are called.
5th August: End of the contract extension.
6th August: Alleged third missed rent payment (for the period 6th August - 5th September).
6th August: Section 8 notice served (a month later than it could have been).
7th August: Argus article "Hove mum faces sleeping tent after "squatters" take over home" appears.
9th August: Metro article "Woman forced to live in a tent after squatter takes over house" appears.
10th August: Campaign mentioned on jeremypdunmore's twitter.
10th August: Suzy on BBC South East Today, Tessa appears too.
11th August: Suzy is on GMTV.
11th August: Suzy is on ITV news 6.30pm.
12th August: Suzy is on GMTV, for the follow up report.
12th August: Suzy is on Radio 5.
13th August: Suzy is on GMTV, for the second follow up report, live on the sofa.
13th August: Tenant moves out, landlord moves in.
13th August: ITV Meridian Tonight reporting Suzy is back in the house.

And of course we don't know how often she'd troubled the tenant before the infamous removal of the tent. I really don't get how, even now, Suzy Butler can't see the potential for harassment there.
