This meeting with the MP - it's in London right? Is it an open meeting? Any dates and times? (sorry, don't really look at facebook for things like this so wouldn't know how to find it)0

I understand you are all squeamish about criticizing her work for "charidee" but there is a big fat elephant in the room. And I have to say after much web-trawling, I have failed to find anything this charity has actually achieved apart from funding an enviable life-style for this ghastly woman, back and forth for the past 8 years, Spain and Peru, at the expense of others without having to actually get a proper job.
Is it such a great leap? This is no Mothere Theresa; we are discussing someone who manipulates and walks all over others to get what they want; an arrogance, an ego that believes it can do whatever it pleases including forcing a woman and her child out of their home.
Good works is a great cover; "Look at me, I work for poor people therefore I must be good and beyond reproach". Look at the speed and ease with which she wields this trump card - I'm not buying it, like everything else about Ms Butler it does not add up.0 -

I am not saying that I'd disagree with some of your interpretation (indeed, I commented in the deleted thread about charities who charge middle class gap year kids around 1k for a volunteer "work experience").
Yes, she does seem to have played on it , but many can see through the facade & know that going all big-eyed on TV and saying " but look what I do for a living" is no excuse for very publicly harassing/hounding out a legitimate tenant, albeit an allegedly non-paying one.
The TV coverage showed her treating Ms Nobre in an appalling, possibly criminal, way and yet there has been no acknowledgement from her that she handled things unprofessionally. We can see that she sees herself as the victim and wants to hog the moral high ground (probs spent too much time at Machu Picchu)
However, if her small charity may be doing some good work somewhere along the line, I wouldn't want to upset that, although I suspect that she may, by her actions in the UK, have done that herself.0 -
Maybe ask Mike Weatherly MP's office where the meeting is?
Otherwise I suspect that only the select few will be attending.
They would have to be morons.
Oh yeah, they are !0 -
Hmm.. during the working day. That's annoying - only off-duty charity workers can attend.
The charity thing is a little bit odd. I'd like to believe that it's all above board, and probably much/most of it is. But I notice that the services that these centres provide are basically those she says that she delivers. I know there are charity staff costs of ~34k (IIRC), and around 14k of flights. But I wonder, given that much of the costs of the provision of services is likely to be staff too, how much of the remaining 100k+ goes into... ahem... paying for therapists.
Unfortunately a charity that small doesn't have to .e audited, so I guess it's all just speculation.
My guess? It's probably a perfectly normal charity, if something of a vanity project. Still, it's more charity than I've ever provided. But then we all have our strengths (media manipulation) and weaknesses (hers, of course, being tenancy law and general evasiveness!).0 -
