  • I just decided to pop in on the Facebook page to see if they are still maintaining it and it seems there will be a big announcement tomorrow!

I think that they are going to trumpet getting 21 signatures on their petition

It will probably be a follow on from discussions at the Brighton branch of the NLA meeting on Tues eve...

I don't look at the petition page because (a) I don't want to help keep it in the "hot petitions section" and (b) they are being secretive about who has signed up.

What has it averaged out at- 1 signature per day? She may hit 2000 signatures in a few years......

    I think they've been sussed.

SB has disappeared off the radar & J is treating it as a pet project marketing campaign.

When he makes these announcements, he's being a bit loose with his words attaching his campaign to anybody that is passing, Shamplina, NLA meetings, whatever.

Did anyone notice he has taken control of this other fb page & renamed it from
"Suzy Butler Should Have Her Home Back, Abolish Squatters Rights" to
"Assistance for landlords with rogue tenants".

I said earlier in the thread that they would have to widen their campaign because other LLs wouldn't back something that only gave special dispensation to "amateur" princess LLs letting their own homes

They've clearly been advised that they wouldn't get enough support for "homeowner LLs are a special case", so hope to bring in some hangers on by altering it to be doing something for " all LLs whose Ts have rent arrears" so that BTL/investor LLs will possibly sign and then chucking in a bit about "anti social behaviour" because, hey, even other Ts will want the rogues out more quickly.

    The amended FB blurb reads:
Following the recent story of Suzy Butler who was [do we fill in the blanks ourselves?]
and the stories of many landlords who have contacted to share their stories, the purpose of this page is to draw attention to the plight of those who
have suffered at the hands of rogue tenants,

Suzy Butler and her son were forced to camp in a friend’s garden after the 32-year-old’s former tenant allegedly refused to leave when they returned from Peru. This case drew into sharp focus the issue of rogue tenants who cause huge issues to ordinary people throughout the UK who rent out their home only to face significant issues with both rent arrears and anti-social behaviour.
Our aim is to push for a change in the law which allows Landlords swifter legal recourse to remove these individuals.

    ( My bolding)
Hmmm, it drew into sharp focus that there are idiots out there are letting out their properties without a full understanding of tenancy law

Remember, this idea of being able to reduce eviction time for Ts come as OOs who fall into arrears are being given more time by their Lenders.

Matthew "Jonesy" Jones is credited as being the creator of the FB page, whoever he is.Interesting that they are being a little more circumspect in how they describe things - see the word "allegedly" popping up?

    Here we go

    London, 24th September 2010

Hi good to catch up with you all its been a manic few weeks! Today we would like to announce a major new partnership with Landlord Action and the Residential Landlords Association. They will be assisting us on our ongoing campaign to assist landlords who have issues with rogue tenants. We have been overwhelmed and blown away by some of the stories you have shared with us and are now convinced more than ever that there needs to be greater support for landlords who are being abused by their tenants. Whilst everyone needs and deserves protection we have seen time and time again that ordinary hard working people have been taken advantage of by tenants who have continually abused and exploited the system and others to their own advantage. We would like to stress that we are not anti tenant and neither do we support unscrupulous landlords who use violence to remove tenants. We represent a position of fairness where those who continue to exploit and abuse the system can be called to account for their behaviour and can be removed from the property more readily, with the support and backing and, within the framework of the legal system. In addition we aim to bring clarity and focus allowing potential landlords access to resources and information which will enable them to more readily rent their property with confidence which we believe is essential in a time of continual housing shortage. We continue to enjoy the support of Mike Weatherly MP and will ensure that we use this platform and your stories to effect lasting change

    Ends

    My bolding

How about "unscrupulous" LLs who use means other than violence?

Suzy B and chums bringing "clarity and focus"??

Potential LLs already have access to "resources & information" that they need to be able to the job properly. There is even an accreditation scheme for PRS LLs in good old B&H. - if they need to be further spoon-fed then they are probably best avoiding property letting altogether.

Still, it will give the RLA a bit of an increase in profile, as they lag behind the NLA in membership numbers.
  • They keep harping on about it being quicker. What they dont seem to grasp is they were too ill-informed to issue the S8 as soon as they could and that half of the wait is for a court date. Perhaps a LL could pay a large fee (that cannot be claimed back from the tenant) for a priority court case heard within a week. Then this fee can be used to pay for more courts to fund the people that would otherwise get bumped further down the queue.

Why have all these people who sahred a story not signed the petition? I mean, it can't be that Jezza iss lying, can it? He or Suzy hasn't done that before so it really cant be that.

I spoke to Mike Stimpson for 45 minutes the day after they went to Parliament on Thu 9 Sep, he is a professional landlord who runs Southern Landlords Association.

He went with them to Parliament & they thank him on their page for his "support".
An end to squatters rights what about homeowners rights? A big thank you to Mike Stimpson for his support today

I had a very very very interesting conversation with him & it does not match their deluded world.

And I thank Mike Stimpson for his support, everything he said would not be out of place on this thread.

I see that the petition is now sitting on LL Action's webpage as well as at petition buzz. It has had another point added

iv) Seek commitment from the government that proposed closures of UK County Courts will not contribute towards any delays in landlords obtaining possession of their property.

What a bunch of fools - how many more versions of the "big petition" are there going to be?

Do we reckon that Mr Shamplina's business will be reaping the benefits of his tie-in?
