hi, could you give me the number for your aga service engineer? i live in east sussex and am struggling to find someone to service my rayburn..
thanks0 -
sorry, that last post was for debt_free_chick... or anyone else who could help?!0

Hi If its an Oil Fired one try OFTEC.
If its a Gas one try Corgi.
If you phone Aga/Rayburn they will possibly put you in touch with an 'Aga Guild Member'. But none of my local ones were able to take me on as they were too busy! They are also VERY expensive - but the trade off is that they should be able to fault find and repair quicker than someone who is not an Aga expert!I am NOT a Woman! - its Overland Landy (as in A Landrover that travels Overland)
Better to be approximately right than precisely wrong.0 -

Also worth checking out http://www.gas-news.co.uk - who despite the name have an oil and a gas forum. Stuffed full of technicians, most of whom would be only too glad to take you on as a customer
Hope this helps

I think xagabuyer means http://www.agacentral.com who do seem to have a list of independent aga service engineers on their forums.

Can you confirm what you mean by the control stat please?
Is this the plate that fits on top of the thermometer, which shows whether the AGA is up to optimum temperature?Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
The Thermostat or control box & oil regulator is fitted to the left hand lower side of an Aga and acts in a similar way to a carburettor on a 60's vehicle.
There are two basic types dependant on the year of installation and my preference is for the manual version pre 1970 ish due to less to go wrong with the metallic heat regulating box that sits on top of a later oil fired aga's regulator.
The heat settings as controlled by removing the top and using grub screws but just like a car it should not be fiddled with unless all servicing pipes etc have been checked and cleared.
