Hi All
The bedroom is finished, woohoo, hubby is sat with his feet up & a beer, he deserves it, I'm very pleased with it, it looks fresh & clean & very blue, but I'm bu@@ered if I was buying more paint when we had lots of blue left from painting the living room.
Falady, my DD has the same problem, my ex & her inlaws fight over who is to see/hold the baby first, I prefer to hold back & not cause her more stress.
Hugs Hester

Hello everyone; late lunch for me again today, as I made myself do half an hour of yoga on the Wii Fit first.:A
I'm afraid I'm having another brainfog day today - have read the thread, but can't remember much of it.:(
However - best wishes to all those with medical appointments of various sorts.
Oh, and best wishes also for those getting exam results today.Would any of you think me mad for buying bits and bobs of 'house things' now if I see them on a good deal or really like them, or will use them anyway, so that when I eventually get my own place I don't have to go and buy 1000000000 things at once?
Jackieg well done on fixing the TD.:T One of the things Rick Maybury (computer chappie who writes in the Telegraph) advises is to take photos on a digital camera before you start dismantling things. Then you can see where things went originally, and you can just delete the photos when you've finished the job.;)
We have a trip to Mr T's lined up for when Mr LW comes home, then he's volunteered to do egg'n'chips for our dins, as I'm bound to be exhausted. What a star!:A:DIf your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Lamewolf - That was exactly my thinking, having a "bottom drawer". Only thing is I have to be careful not to go overboard, especially on offers and the like, because I don't have a lot of room to keep things. My bedroom dresser has now got bottles of cooking oil and custards living on it from last time that happened!
I am actually glad now that despite thinking about it I never got round to beginning this back when I first started properly working, as I never foresaw I would be moving so far away from home and I'd never have been able to shift the stuff! The vast majority of my books and DVDs still have to live at Mumsie and Pater's house up north, never mind anything else. It'll be removed once I have my own place, if I see myself staying put in the same house for a long time then it will be worth clearing all the rest of my stuff out from theirs.0 -
Afternoon all,
Checked my bank account on-line last night and discovered that I had been stopped €74.42 tax on my work pension....that's almost €2k a year (fortnightly payment) Spent almost 2 hours sorting the whole thing out...some genius had mixed up my numbers with OH's and given him all my tax credits! Knew that had to be wrong as he was never a civil servant (barely civil most of the time!). Will be refunded in next payment so happy with that, had visions of cutting things very tightly for the future.
Nice and bright early to-day but apparently to rain later and all day to-morrow. Have put a wash out will keep an eye as a couple of hours will be help.
Going to scrub my fridge as there is a minging smell in it....can't detect anything except some smelly cheese....will have to eat quickly, not throwing it out as I love smelly cheese.
Think I saw something about forums going down around now so will get on with what I should be doing and come back later....let there be no panic I may be wrong, has been known to happen!
Welcome newbies, nice people here although some of us are slightly discombobulated most of the time!

Hi everyone,
Well done on fixing the TD Jackie - I wouldn't have know where to start with something like that! (or thought to have video tutorials on t'interweb etc).:j:T
Meanmarie - glad you got your tax credits sorted out. We have the delight of applying for them once little one has arrived, though I'm not sure we'll get anything. My fridge also needs cleaning - any tips? (have never done it before except for the odd swish and swipe)
Hester - glad you've got the plastering finished - didn't take long! Thank you for the understanding comment about parents and new babies.I don't think my parents will be too fussed, but MIL is a different issues and seems to get offended quite easily. I am generally very lucky with my inlaws, but everyone has different thresholds for what causes offence don't they?
CupofChai - well done on your bargains:money: We've got a tesco vocuher that needs using by the end of this month, so i was going to go and see what it might be worth using it for on the double up deals.... I think your idea of shopping in advance is a good one, and did something similar myself.
Lowesy - well done to your DD on her A level results
Taplady - glad the dentist wasn't too painful, in both ways.:T
Donny-gal - thank you for your comments. I agree it is important not to create barriers with my inlaws. I have made sure that they feel very involved at all stages of the pregnancy. They only live about 10 minutes walk away, so we see them much more than my parents, and they'll see the baby often when she arrives. I am very concious of making sure they feel included, as I like them, and i also know how upset my mum was by being badly treated by my brothers girlfriend when my niece was born, IYSWM. Its just that different families have different 'politics', and I am anxious about the baby already, and do not want any more things to worry about. There have been some complications with the pregnancy recently which have made me even more anxious.
However, we saw the midwife this morning, and she was very nice and explained lots of things and agreed that I can go to have the baby in the birth centre, rather than the consultant unit. She alleviated lots of my worries and I'm feeling much better, and now just need to catch up on my sleep!
Enjoy your holiday Candygirl!
Take care everyone,
Ali xxNot Buying It 20150 -
Thanks for all the kind wishes about my cat. I'm still hoping he's just on a long holiday and will come back when the weather turns.
Taplady - what a brilliant result!
Lowesy - well done to your DD for the results and for getting into university. It looks pretty dire out there judging by the news and I feel so sorry for all those who won't get the place they want. Your DD has done really well.
Jackie - how moneysavingly-satisfying to have fixed your TD yourself! Well done!
Well, after a morning on duty as DH's labourer he's now on the last bucket of mix for the day so I don't have to help any more today beyond keeping the teapot topped up, and that's no problem for me!
I think it's about time the kettle went on again - don't want it to cool down completely!

So much for my lazy sewing day! I had a letter from Student Loans Co, which ended up with me being passed around their call centre for an hour or so, while they contradicted each other at every opportunity, before I threw a tiny tantrum and demanded to speak to a supervisor, or just someone who knew what on earth was going on! I don't like doing that to call center people, I've done their job and it's horrible, but I was so fed up of being told different things and no one clearing anything up! Turns out they've done their favourite trick, and only processed half my application, because they *thought* they had my financial info, but don't, so can't actually complete it until I send it in... Obviously, I hadn't sent it in, because they told me they had everything they needed. Thankfully, this is the last year I'll have to deal with them, so just a little more smiling sweetly, and then it'll all be sorted, not until after term starts, but luckily I have a very understanding landlady, and supportive parents - I've already arranged with mum that I can borrow the cash to cover my DD's if the maintainence doesn't come through in time, so it's just a case of crossing the fingers and waiting now.
On the plus side, I'm now going home to visit the parents for the weekend, which should be nice - they came to help me move a few weeks ago, but we didn't really get much time to chat or anything, so it'll be nice to be able to spend some time with them without running around and panicking. I wasn't supposed to be spending money on things like petrol right now, but every now and then, seeing mum is more important!*2016 - the year of the savings account!*

Hi everyone,
Didn't get on here yesterday as woke at 4.30 am with a bout of vertigo that pretty much wiped me out for the dayGot up this morning feeling a lot better but sort of hungover IYKWIM. Has anyone else noticed that the housework fairy seems to have the same days off as you? So WM on and finished, washing on line despite the grey clouds, DW done and emptied, hoovered through and s/s bathroom, doesn't sound too bad until I realised it took me nearly three hours to do just that lot . DD1 is home from a trip to stay with friends in Brighton and has offered to cook dinner so am just putting my feet up until I have to go out to drs later.
Best wishes to all A levellers today.
Falady you have my sympathy, when DD1 was due we already had a name picked, but both mums spelt it different in the cards and I ended up making up a completely different spelling up so as not to offend either of them lol.
Best wishes to everyone for the day

Jackie - I wish I could find the right solution for you but I really can't. It would be awful if you lived to regret not bridging the gap between you and your parents but can understand, as you say with your mother it's all or nothing, that you would prefer to keep a distance in case you become too involved. It seems that there is a lot unresolved and that will always be in the background, especially if your parents just refuse to discuss it. You'll have much soul-searching in the next few days, I expect, and I really hope that you can make the decision you'll be happy with. Good luck and please don't apologise for being 'long-winded'. We all have crises in our lives and getting things written down helps a lot, I know, even if it doesn't always provide the answers.
