You won't get it because you are not a FULL-TIME student, it's a stipulation of any student account that you must be in full-time education. As you are taking a part-time course you won't meet the terms and conditions of opening the account.

I was accepted for £2000 overdraft in my 3rd year and I already had £1400 with Natwest..
Natwest wouldn't increase my overdraft though after a credit check and they asked if i had another student account...
£3400 was enough though, i had it all in savings anyway..0 -

Has anybody managed to extend their interest free overdraft beyond the year?
I was on JSA from graduation until the new year and so had no chance of paying it off. I've since started a job abroad until November, but noticed that I'll be paying 15.9% APR on my overdraft once the year is up :eek::eek:
It's actually a voluntary teaching job with accommodation and bills paid for, and I'm earning $500 a month, but my spare cash is going to be paying off my Co-op credit card. (yes, I know, I know)
I'm just a bit worried that they are going to demand that I pay off my credit card and overdraft *immediately* if call them, especially as I'm living abroad0 -

I'm in my third year of a four year course and I've had this student account form the start. I only use the account to deposit my student loan and I occasionally withdraw from ATM's.
I have had no problems increasing the OD each year and have now got the full £2000.
The only problem I did have is that they sent me a letter at the end of year 2 congratulating me on my graduation and notifying me of account closure after a year. This was resolved by sending a proof of enrolment letter to the student office, however, they extended the life of the account by one more year, still not reaching to the end of my course! Will just keep sending proof of enrolment letters until I do graduate!0 -
I tried for MONTHS to open an account with these clowns and after having my official UCAS confirmation letter rejected as proof of me being on a course, sending off a requested letter from my uni, countless phone calls to the ridiculous customer services who ask you a bunch of security questions before putting you through to an answer machine that tells you "the student account dept is now closed, please call back later" and hangs up on you, i've come to the decision that I would rather put my money in the bin than give it these numb skulls!0

I have banked with the Co-op for over 25 yrs.
My son is in his 2nd yr at university and has not had a good experince in trying to get a student co op account.
We initially tried to do this at the main Co op bank in Balloon street in Manchester only to be told they can't deal with student accounts there, we would have to do it by phoning Skelmeresdale.
The 1st application got loss in their system and we were told to make a 2nd application. after no action from the co-op for 3 months my son sent me the following email:
somehow i have two applications with the co-op bank, two different application numbers.
one application number has proof of identity and address the second has proof of course and funding, co-op will not amalgamate the two.
so, after tuesday, i will take in proof of identity and address.
then maybe this will get moving again.0 -
I've just applied & been turned down because my credit check failed (from Experian).
I've ordered my credit check from Experian but have been asked to provide a bill from my current address. Since I've only been living here 3 months (I'm at the end of year 1 of my degree) I can't provide it.
I've emailed experian & been advised that a reply could take up to 2 weeks.
What's going on? Really need to get a student account sorted asap.
ps. I'm a mature student & have previously had a student account (when I was studying my ND & HND) with HSBC... could this affect my eligibility for a new student account?0 -
As a follow-on to this. I've just checked my Experian score - 824. The only thing affecting it is that I've registered with Experian with a new address (I moved in a few months ago) & they still have me on file at my old address.
Other than that, I can't see anything wrong with my credit history .... perhaps they're simply declining everyone until they bring their new products out?0 -
I recently applied for the student account with Co-operative and was refused. The email I received (approximately 5 minutes after applying and on a bank holiday evening!!!) said:
'We have made our decision using a technique known as credit scoring. Our credit score takes into account the information provided by you during your application and information provided by one or more credit reference agencies. This may include information relating to you, or one or more of your financial associates, such as someone you have an account with, or may have made an application for credit with.
In this instance, the information we considered was registered with Experian.'
They advised me to contact Experian, however, i have a monthly credit check account and have excellent credit scores with all agencies. What do they really base their decisions on? It is obviously completely untrue that it is based on Experian credit scores in this case!0
