Co-operative bank student account 2010/2011: We want your feedback

I'm helping my son open an account, the first call to customer services was easy and I thought what helpful people ...not so. The 1st CS rep apparently told us a load of rubbish (according to the 2nd) and now he is back to the beginning with verifying paperwork and opening the account.
We have now wasted 3 weeks and still no account, having very few branches is a problem and obviously the continuity of their training and the advice they give out is poor.0 -
I just got my welcome pack in the post. On the letter it says my account number, which has a six digit number, a space, and then an eight digit number, I take it these are my sort code and account number? And with regards to paying in the £300 to secure the overdraft, does anyone know if this be done in cash at a Britannia branch, even though I don't have a paying in book or debit card yet?
Cheers.0 -

The woman in the brittania branch said the computers wern't going to be fully synced until late 2011. However, they did manage to do all my confirmation stuff for me.
Do you know how long it was from sending off all your 'formality' stuff to getting your account number etc0 -

I bank with CO-OP and all you need to do is to phone them set up Internet banking and you can transfer money in that way. The transfers into CO-OP are not instant they can take about 20 minutes for the money to show in your account.
What card are you getting Electron or Visa debit ?0 -

I read somewhere that for internet banking they send you a card reader, but I don't have a card yet so will I still be able to do this? I'm not sure if it's going to be Electron or debit, is there much of a difference?PARIS_5000 wrote: »I bank with CO-OP and all you need to do is to phone them set up Internet banking and you can transfer money in that way. I am new customer of CO-OP as well and I do not have a card reader and having been using internet banking all week without it. When you log on it only asks you for account number and security questions.
On your welcome letter it should tell you what card that you are getting. The Visa debit can be used offlline and the electron card can only be used online which means that may not be able to use at pay and pump and some train stations.0 -
Hi I just wanted to query something - I've applied for a student bank account as I'm starting university the week after next and I saw it came recommended. I did everything online, had no trouble. On 03/09, I received an email saying my application is still being processed and I would be notified of their decision within a few days. However it's now more than a week later, and still nothing. It is worrying me my bank account will not be sorted by the time I leave. How long did you have to wait before a decision was made?
Thanks in advance.0 -
Yeah just checked the letter again and it just says it's a debit card I'll be getting. I've registered for internet banking, but there doesn't seem to be the option to pay money into the account online, I was hoping I could pay the £300 in using my HSBC debit card but it appears I can't. Looks like I'll just have to set up a bank transfer.PARIS_5000 wrote: »I am new customer of CO-OP as well and I do not have a card reader and having been using internet banking all week without it. All you need to do is use HSBC internet banking to make a faster payment to your Co- operative bank account and the money will be in your account within 20 minutes.
If it says debit card on the letter then its the proper visa debit that you are getting not the Electron card.0 -
I'm just starting my 3rd Year of study and have a pretty credit record so thought I'd apply for this to take advantage of the overdraft.
I applied on-line 4 weeks ago and today have cancelled the application as they were absolutely useless and I have still not received any paperwork about the account.
Additionally the telephone customer service was appalling with most agents unable to help as they 'weren't trained in student accounts' and when I tried to get hold of the dedicated team I could never get through.
What a waste of time!
