Giving up fizzy drinks?

It is easy to be self righteous and pontificate about this but as a former DC drinker, I know its hard to give up. That is what they depend on!
First comment would be to look at your drinking pattern.
Are you thirsty or is it the sugar and caffeine you crave?
If its caffeine switch to weak tea or weak coffee when you feel thirsty.
If its a social thing drink lime cordial and soda water with ice (no booze!) which still gives you the fizz buzz. Switch soda to water eventually.
Iced water alone is refreshing. And free.
If OH is an addict too discuss and explain that you will have to support each other at home and its up to him to decide at work.
Good luck.
Even the DC haKeep trying.........................what else is there to do?

I've now read this whole thread and think it is well worth reading from start to end coz it is so informative IMHO.
But the one thing that I really want to stress very strongly indeed is that there is no such thing as flavoured water - it is just fizzy pop without any colours in it and a negligible proportion of fruit juice in it.
And if you're thinking of using fizzy water with low-sugar squash or cordial to wean yourself off cola then you may as well drink diet flavoured water coz it will be no different at all
I've posted the ingredients for flavoured water, lemonade and orange pop below - all Tesco's own to be consistent - which I've copied straight from Tesco's website in order to demonstrate how little difference there is between them all...  :rolleyes:Tesco Water Hint Of Apple & Raspberry 1litre

Own brand sparkling water is only 17/18p for a 2 litre bottle. I like the fizz (of beer though, not coke!) and find that if I drink the fizzy water, it quenches my thirst much better than plain water. If you need some flavour, just add a bit of juice

I noticed this when I went into to buy my alternative to DC. So, I made sure to get the 'high juice' type drinks which do not have 'aspartame' in them. None of which are low sugar, but I'm now of the opinion that a bit of sugar is the better option!
10 days and still DC free, although this hot weather has been making it hard0 -
Wow i thought i was the only one addicted to DC and have been for last 30 years. I keep trying to give up to no avail but maybe after reading all these posts i will try again. Just to say i have perfect teeth and no fillings(which my dentist cant believe)0

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this about Diet Coke (and normal coke and colas) but it also has phosphoric acid in it. This stuff rots your teeth like there's no tomorrow. Some people say that they thought Diet was better for your teeth as it doesn't have the sugar in but are ignorant to the acid!!!.....0

What a great thread. I thought I was alone in my little addiction but clearly there are a lot of us out there.
My vice is the pepsi max rather than coke but only because I can get it cheaper so my taste buds have adapted. 12 cans for £2.25 & i often go & get a 2nd pack in the week so 24 cans a week. It's scary really.
I did manage to wean myself onto just water last year but then when i was out & ran out of water (i refill a sports cap water bottle) I needed to buy a drink, a bottle of water was £2 & small (500ml definitely not enough) or coke was 80p. I went for the coke being on a budget & suddenly I was hooked again even though I hadn't particularly enjoyed it.
I'm now trying tog et back on the wagon & have drunk 1litre of water so far this morning, the hardest part i find is the body adjusting to the water & i need the toilet more often for a few days.
Hopefully we can all kick the habit.
Hugs

I'm gonna try the bottle of water in the freezer trick once I've drunk the 2 bottles of Sprite I got my OH to buy today :rolleyes:You should never call somebody else a nerd or geek because everybody (even YOU !!!) is an"anorak" about something whether it's trains, computers, football, shoes or celebs

To all those that need a sugar fix, try this-its healthy and really refreshing!
Still minty Lemonade
Squeeze half a lemon into a jug of cold water, add approx. 20 leaves of fresh mint, add a spoon of sugar and stir, until the lemon and sugar dissolve. Pour into a glass with ice cubes and enjoy!
They sell this for £3.50 in the local cafes here (anyone been to Bills in Brighton?!), outrageous!
I made this yesterday and it was lovely. DD loved it as well. Thank you!!!0 -
My Mum is diabetic and has been warned not to drink fizzy drinks, even diet ones, not even fizzy water, because it affects how fast sugars get into the bloodstream, apparently. This may be enough to put some people off so worth a mention!
also just adding up what the annual cost would be must be enough to put anyone off?Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:
I have done reading too!
