Gosh Darnit I spoke too soon

DOH comes home this evening, and I hear him coming a long time before he gets to the drive. The effing jeffing car has started it's inevitable decline into a largely un-repairable hole.

We have 2 cars. 1 is a 13 year old Peugeot with 106k miles on the clock. We got that car dirt cheap from an old neighbour who was going to trade it in. It's done great but has a problem with it's revs. It basically goes... well... mental and the revs get stuck at about 4-5000, even when you're stationary.

(really embarrasing when stuck in traffic because it makes the car worse and people do nothing but stare at the weirdo with the loudly revving engine)

We fixed it once, by replacing a part but it's getting worse- much worse.

We have a so far very reliable Corsa which I drive, because whilst it's 12 years old it only has 63k on the clock. I'm racking up 250 miles a week commuting to work so we need it to hang in there. We can car share to work 4 days a week, DOH works half way between home and my work and then he can beg, borrow and steal lifts home on a Friday. Problem comes that means he can't do OT (much needed for MFW plans) or I have to sit in the car for hours waiting.

So, I am narked at myself for being all grateful for things earlier... but I'm going to carry on.... :p

I'm NOW grateful we know the car's dying before it kicks the bucket for good so we can put emergency plans into place.

Take that karmic gods who are watching my happy and :rotfl:

We didn't... why what's wrong with that?!
I've been pursuing ignorance, I've given up listening to the news. I just want to eat my food, I'm fed up of being told what's wrong with it.

woo. just read back to the beginning, and glad things have (mainly) worked out for you.

cars are evil. fact. we had the same with my DH's 160k Astra a couple of weeks back and had to suck precious money out of our offset to pay for a 2007 Peugeot for him.

i keep telling myself that at least we don't need to take out credit in emergencies, but it still stings to have to USE savings dagnabbit!

(yes i am a slightly OCD spreadsheet and MSE user, can you tell? :rotfl:)

Wow- that would have been a lot of reading. Thanks for your dedication TP :D

I :heartsmil spreadsheets, although I am rubbish at maintaining them. I start, get things organised in my head, and then leave it all be again for a while. Then I come back when I start feeling a bit

It's never as bad as I tell myself.

Going to sit down and decide whether we can do what we did with the last car- buy it on a 0% credit card and pay it off that way. We juggled it when the 15 months ended, and I took out another 0% and moved the balance over. First time I've ever had a credit card... and I managed to get a 0% one for 15 months. Well chuffed as I finally felt like a grown up. So looks like DOH is going to have to find another 0% card and work on that now.

    So many options.

as long as you're paying it all off and can afford it, then i'd take advantage of any 0% i could get, personally. you won't find a better loan % at the mo. as long as you're not making too many applications in a short amount of time it keeps your credit history ticking over nicely too.

i am a spreadsheet fiend, i tell ya. DH leaves me to deal with all things of a financial nature as he's far too relaxed and forgetful. we'd end up with pots in the bank and no bills paid if i left it up to him. he's happy to just smile and pat me on the head in an 'as long as you're happy darling' kinda way when i start talking Excel.

anyway, i've now hijacked your thread....oops! sorry :p better do some work :)

    Carry on TP :P

My DOH is the exact same. So I sit and ramble at him about all my ideas, and he nods aimlessly, with lots of "yes dear..."
But as long as one of us has got a handle on it, I'm sure we'll be fine.

Sounds just like Mr PP too! Especially the "yes dear..." :rotfl:

MFW is pretty much "spreadsheet-oholics anonymous". I love having a place where nobody thinks I'm weird for being a spreadsheetophile. :D
