This is the one I use
    3 oz plain flour
    2 oz c sugar
    2 tspns b powder
    pinch of salt
    3 fl oz milk
    1 large egg
2 tbspns veg oil or melted butter

Combine the dry mix and whisk in the wet ingredients.I use a dessertspoonful in each ring so it doesn't spill over.;)

Years ago there was one in the Ideal Home Exhibition that I bought and it was basically a long thin rod with a round ring dounghnut mold attached to the bottom.Into this you poured the batter and then held it into a deepfat fryer/chip pan to cook. When one side was done enough then you flipped it over to do the other side.Once cooked you put the cooked doughnut into a small bag with caster sugar and shook it to cover it wth sugar .You ended up with a ring-doughnut rather like a 'dunky' (thats if anyone on here is old enough to remember them.)They were the first ring-doughnuts on sale in Britain in the 1950s Great little invention, and only cost about thirty bob:) and I have never seen one on sale since, luckily for my waistline it was lost during one of our housemoves or I would be bigger than I am already :)I used to put a small amount of batter in the ring mold then a pineapple ring then cover with some more batter so you ended up with a pineapple ring doughnut, fill with whipped cream ala Rum Baba shape and you were in doughnut heaven. You also became Rum Baba shaped if you ate too many :):):)
