  • "I don't contribute to his house other than a bit of food I bring with me"

More than non-working wife you mean?

I don't see why me bringing food is an issue. The only reason I do that is because I am on a special diet which I need to stick to. And as I live at home this is generally food my parents have bought anyways.

But a non working 'partner' would bring NOTHING
  • Bob I can see you think I am up to something dodgy. I am a none working partner with a little bit of student loan money left over and some summer earning that I got and have saved to pay for my fuel.

If you would like me to get technical I contribute nothing. My parents contribute food. Why this is an issue with you I am unsure.
  • I am simply pointing out that there is a difference between a 'Couple' where one HARD WORKING (NON-CLAIMANT) person works away during the week with a partner does not work and a CLAIMANT who has a partner who are together a similar amount of time and may contribute the same or more to the joint 'budget'. It is not so clear cut as it might appear.
  • We are a couple yes but do not live together. For one I would be killed by my parents if after 4 months I moved in with my boyfriend.

We don't have a joint budget. We don't have joint expenses. We have nothing which is in both our names.

I have my own home with my parents, and a university home which I pay the bills with one house mate. Those are the places I live and contribute.

My boyfriend is the claimant but I also do not work. He is the sole permanent occupant of his house, along with a dog.

But the non working partner would presumably be named on council tax and other bills. From what the OP has said, it seems to be "I sometimes stay with him to help him out; but my home [or parents home?] is my main residence" - where she would be on the electoral register.

Exactly :D I believe I am on the electoral register in Leicestershire where I live and voted last year. Until then I was on the register in my home town in West Yorkshire with my parents where my bank statements, important post and hospital letters go.
  • This sounds a bit fishy.

Let me get this right, he's had a phone call saying they've had a report of living together and will be monitoring the situation?

Firstly, his first contact would be a letter about an interview AFTER the monitoring had been done.

Secondly, being told they will monitor the situation. If you were living there (not saying you are) you would just go somewhere else until the dust had settled so they couldn't catch you.

Is it not more probable that the person you think reported it has got a friend to call him and pretend to be DWP. The warning about monitoring could be a ploy to stop you staying over/seeing each other so much and ultimately split you up.

Put it this way, if a burglar is suspected of doing over a house every Friday night, the police would hardly ring him up and say "Just to let you know, someone's reported you for doing a house every Friday so we are going to monitor the situation and tail you every Friday." Wouldn't they rather catch him in the act. I am not in any way likening the situations, it was the only example I could think of. (must be my criminal mind...lol)
  • Mollycat, he may have had a letter as well but I am unsure as I haven't spoken to him yet. He was told it is being monitored but they gave him alot of dates saying we know shes been here x and x and x. Some of which are bogus as on one of the weeks they've given him I was out of the country!

It is possible that it is this particular women trying to spilt us up, and trust me she's tried. He came to visit me and I found out later that she had gone around telling people that he had come down to mine to finish with me.

He said he had a letter of complaint about some noise last week as well that was from her. Not sure what noise she is hearing except when we're decorating I like singing but that is always during the day.

I am hoping he can fill me in on all the details this week. I am just now concerned that me going down on THursday is going to get him in more trouble!
  • Quite correct that no-one "dobbed-in" gets a warning phone call (unless they have a mole at the relevent office), a phone call would be a hoax/wind up, wait for a letter, and even then, confirm its genuine, computers+printers are marvellous things....
