Since the lamb doner has been unaminously raved about on this thread, I tried this first tonight (only got the book this morning!). Another resounding thumbs up from us! :j
I took a photo - going to see if I can add it here.

That's the red sauce on top of the meat and not the colour of the meat!

*please bear in mind, I use a different basic sauce recipe (Curry Queen has another, I'll get a link if you need it) so I'll be interested to know how it turns out
if it's not good, let me know & we'll work something else out :)

EDIT ... sorry, too old to do metric :o

Thanks for that. I'll give the recipe a bash tonight and let you know how it turned out. Metric/imperial it's all the same with a set of scales in front of you ;) I think in metric for everything apart from pastry and white sauce.

If you like kebabs the book is worth the price for this recipe alone.

  • Has anyone tried the doner recipe with frozen mince or have you all used fresh? Frozen is cheaper in Mr A's. Going to try it for tea tomorrow.

Assuming you mean the lamb doner kebab, I wouldn't think it would be as good with frozen mince due to its water content.

To be honest I don't think I would even try it with frozen I don't think it would be anywhere near as nice as the one with fresh mince and it may put you off making it again.

Tesco have a value lamb mince at a good price, surely Asda must have something similar in price.

Just checked there website and no value stuff on there. I will just pick up the regular stuff and give it a try. How much lamb is used? My book it at home at the mo! Need to write a quick list before I go shopping.

EDIT: The doner recipe shows up on Amazons website so will get my list written! lol

I couldn't get any value lamb mince either so just used a pack of the normal lamb mince, I think it was about 400g? It's on 2 for £5 at the moment.

hope it works out well :)

PS ... I added a note to stage 3 to put in a bit of water if it's too dry, but you'd probably know to do that anyway ;)
