Just a FYI - Tesco now stock a kebab seasoning mix in the Polish foods section:
http://www.tesco.com/groceries/Product/Details/?id=267584072
At 35p a sachet, it is ideal for those who don't want to buy all the different herbs/spices in the original recipe. If you look at the ingredients list on the packet it is very similar what's used in Takeaway Secret.
(I actually prefer this mix as it is spicier)0 -

Quite a few different spices but includes MSG so best to use the original spices in the
recipe really.0 -
Aha! A Southerner I assume?. Oy Oy Savaloy! (I believe a "sav" is some kind of red sausage processed meat delight, like a decent hotdog?). Northern chippies have sausages instead... You can have them in batter.
With a Fish'n'chip dinner, there are so many chips that any other veg is really not needed, unless it is chinese curry sauce...*
Deep-fried "pie-in-fat" is a common secret, but I once asked my local Chinese chippy owner (a granny who has served 2 generations no less), to dip the already baked Hollands steak pie into the fish batter and then deep-fry it. She thought I was drunk and crazy and refused me! Ok, I was slightly inebriated, but I wasn't crazy... And in the cold light of day I really want to try a Pie Fritter!!! lol! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Mrs Chippy would you entertain such? I think it would taste great between two slices of bread and butter with brown sauce.
* ETA: For proper chippy curry sauce - go to the Chinese store and look for Goldfish brand - I like the Spicy version. Though I have noticed the milder one is even now sold in Tesco in the ethnic foods section. Just add a bit of hot chilli powder to make it sneezeworthy and just like the curry and chips we all adored after a night out.
Update: Tesco now sells both the original and the hot and spicy Goldfish Curry concentrate.0 -
Well, I have just spent quite a while (all night) reading this thread, and of course, had to buy the book! £4.49 from Amazon, but I used vouchers I had from survey sites. :money:
I'm really excited to try all the different recipes and it's been great to see all your pictures. I'm impressed with how creamy the curries look so I think that'll be the first thing I try.
Just out of interest, I know a lot of people have mentioned the Golden Arches recipes, but I just wondered if any of the recipes are similar to BK? My boyfriend loves their stuff and I'd like to be able to make him something similar at home. Thanks.
Now I just have to wait until the book arrives... It would just have to be the Easter weekend, wouldn't it?!?0 -

with BK its not so much about the ingredients but the way the meat is cooked that gives it the flavour, so unless you have a steak grill i think its going to be tricky. A gas fired BBQ is prob the closest you could get, but to crank it up for just one burger might be a bit excessive lol0 -
If you have a kindle it's £3.08 for the kindle version at the moment0

Thanks flea72. Good point, they're all flame grilled so and so, I'd forgotten that. My dad's got a really good BBQ so might persuade him to help me when the weather's a bit nicer!
Counting the days until my book comes x0 -
I've just got the book , it looks great. I'm going to make cheeseburgers for the DDs tomorrow and see what they think0
