I am doing the doner kebab tonight. I have the meat ready to go in the oven. I just need to make the kebab sauces. Has anyone used a slicer for slicing the meat?

I normally use a Borner slicer and get masses of meat that way.

I have just bought an electric food slicer from Argos in the sale but have yet to use that for the kebab meat.

I may have to make some at the weekend now just to test it.

I bought the Argos slicer and I am going to use it tonight. I hope it works OK.

I made 3 times (to save electricity using the oven) the quantity a couple of weeks ago.
I made them into 3 sort of loaf shapes, bearing in mind how large a piece the slicer would comfortably cut.
We used some for a meal, and I sliced (with a slicer)froze the rest. I put them in useable amounts in zip lock type bags and added about a desertpoon of water to each bag.
The last time I froze one dry and the other with a drop of water. The one with the added water was much more succulent.
If you think about it, when your get kebabs at the chippies, they have usually slice so much off, and keep the meat that way, again I would think to save costs & time.
  • Just popped them in the oven. I made double because there are 6 of us. Now Dh has called to say he is working late. I will just freeze what we don't use.

Well you can adjust it from 1mm to 15mm in 1mm increments so I am sure we will be able to get some thin slices from that.

  • So I made 2 and thoguht there would be some to freeze. No! There is a little left which eldest son plans to have wehn he gets home from school. It was a great success and the slicer worked a treat.

Looking forward to tring a curry next.:)

Well I just tried the electric slicer on a tin of ham and def cut it at about 1mm thickness and I could have cut it thinner!

That's masses of meat to a pitta. ;)

One of the boys did the slicing and it was a bit thick but he made it thinner and it was great. Not much left over but that's 4 hungry boys for you!
