We had the Donner Kebab tonight, and it was amazing, exactly the same as kebab shop, especially the red kebab sauce! Can't wait to try the next thing, although DH would eat the kebabs every night he liked it that much, love the idea that it tastes the same as kebab shop but you know exactly whats going in to it.0

Personally I dont think it would as you need the fat and lambyness (I'm sure thats a word) for it to work. Not tried it though so if you give it a shot please let us know how it turns outEmma

You would certainly need to flavour it if you did, as I think it would be really bland with quorn.....
I agree though, I don't know if it would stick together too well... might be worth a try though.A big believer in karma, you get what you give :A

I also was unable to find onion powder so went for the onion granules, and had no problems when making the donna's. The "granules" look like powder to me.MAR GC £92.43 / £100 NSD 16 / 31

Can you reshape quorn - i always thought it was pressure moulded into shapes?
i think falafel with the doner herbs/spices might work best tho

I was just coming on here to post about my results for the donner I did last night. I posted the other week how I wanted to try the lamb donner for my OH and DS who were convinced that it wouldn't taste anything like shop bought ones. Well last night they had homemade donner and I made myself a quorn donner. They were pleasantly surprised, they said it didn't taste exactly the same as shop ones, but did say that it was very good. I also did both the red and white kebab sauces. As a note for anyone doing the sauces (especially the red) the book says that it serves 1 - I trebled it and there was waaaay too much!
Anyway, back to keyboy_telfords question, using quorn works to a fashion, but it does easily break up (I cooked it for about 20-25mins). I followed the recipe in the book but I added a bit of tomato puree and water, and then shoved it all in my blender, which worked better than trying to get it all to stick together by hand.
I have 2 ideas which might work better - using quorn, shape into small patties and then grill them. Or you can buy veggie lamb grills - slice them as thinly as possible and then coat them in the dry ingredients, or maybe add a little puree & water and leave them to marinate for a while - then cook these in the oven.
Hope that makes sense. It was ok with the quorn, but slightly bland - but once you put it into a pita with loads of salad and sauce it wasn't too bad - just it didn't hold the shape very well.0
