    Blinkin' 'eck you lot! Honestly!

I had made a vow not to buy any more cook books but I've just "found" an email from Amazon in my in box confirming my order

How did that happen? Possibly at the same time I ordered the new Jilly Cooper book perhaps ;)

Bit off topic but thanks for pointing out that there is a new Jilly Cooper out :j

I tried one of the chicken kebabs tonight and it was absolutely delicious. I cant remember what its called but its the last one in the kebab section. I made it as per the recipe with 2 tbsp of oil but I'd imagine you could probably leave it out altogether or just put a small drizzle in if you felt it needed it. I served it in a pitta with salad and aside from the 2 tbsp of oil it would have been quite healthy. Most of the oil drained off while cooking it anyway, I cooked it on the grill pan. Top marks from OH as well!

Mad my son a triple decker burger with the sauce of a "certain well known mega burger" and one normal burger cut in half. His eyes nearly popped out but he loved it. We also had the lamb kebab on sunday which was very nice.

angeltreats - some of the recipes rely on off the shelf sauces e.g. worcester, ketchup, mustard but overall it can easily be healthier due to you having control of recipe ingredients. We roasted the lamb kebabs so I know it wasn't dripping in fat and had good quality meat. Meals like curry or chinese have fresh ingredients as well as dried and again you can control the quality yourself. Fish and chips are of course deep fried.

    hi all
my youngest son spotted the book and asked if it had the recipe for chinese takeaway gravy.......as he fancied gravy and chips for lunch today. yes it did and didnt look as if it would take too long so had a go.
welllllllllll - I have a feeling I either used the wrong gravy powder or there is a bit of a mistake in the recipe or kenny mc governs local takeaway gravy is almost solid! I had to add twice the amount of water in the end cos my wooden spoon got stuck in it! I also had to used dried ginger as I didnt have fresh.
BUT once the water thing had been sorted out - it was very, very close to the gravy served at my sons fave takeaway! I tried it too and think its lovely - but now I have made it once I think I know exactly how to tweak it - will leave out the spoonful of sugar and use dark soy not light!
also the gravy my takeaway serves is smooth - so i sieved it. it looked and smelled exactly right.
son enjoyed his gravy and chips and I ended up with enough left to freeze half for another day!
I had some reduced frying steak in iceland today - so when i pick up some beansprouts I will definately be doing the beef chow mein! My favourite!

We bought this book a little while back. Only tried the American Breakfast sausage so far, but it got an enthusiastic thumbs up from my ds who said it was just like the MaccyD.

I am looking forward to making the lamb donner.

This thread must have really upped the sales for Kenny! :)

Swore to myself I would stop buying books especially cookbooks - have far too many already... but this sounds amazing!!

BTW - on Amazon you can read part of the book and see a good few of the recipes.
