Just curious...what recipes have you tried and liked in the book?...Just wondered if it really is worth buying or whether it will end up as 'another book on my kitchen bookshelf' ?

I bought this book when it first came out and it's fab! I haven't cooked anything yet, but my brother in law (who I bought a copy for) has made the donner kebab, chicken pakora, chicken strips and cookies, while my brother has made the same things and both said they're fantastic!

One day I'll get around to cooking something and let you know how it goes!:o:D

the book somehow got in with my order for the last two Phil Rickman books - should get it soon - and it was 3.95 btw.
I love chinese curry so hope this will teach me to replicate the local takeaway one. if so it will pay for itself next weekend!
  • I will be trying the Southern Fried Chicken if I don't go camping. May opt to finish it in the oven though once the coating has sealed. Has anyone else done this?
  • couldnt wait any longer
decided to try the chinese curry sauce

    hmmmmm

i am a HUGE garlic fan
(always said there can never be too much garlic in anything)

reading the recipe beforehand i was a bit mmmmm about this, so went on the side of caution and used 2 cloves
you can still taste the garlic over everything else

i wonder if everyones chinese takeaway makes the same curry
this one is slightly more orange than ours does, the one we get is a little more green in colour

would be interested to hear what anyone else has to say about this:)

I bought this last week and it arrived yesterday. I've been decorating so only had time for a quick look through when it arrived. DS1 came round to visit me and since he's just moved into his own place I was telling him about it. I suggested that I'd buy him a few books like it for his Christmas, which he enthusiastically agreed to, put my book down and went to stir dinner, just as he was leaving.

Went to look at some of the recipes after he left and the book had left with him  He'd misunderstood what I meant (yeah right lol) and thought I'd left it out for him to read. So now I've had to buy a second copy. Guess that's what you get when you bring them up to understand they can eat cheaper, tastier and healthier by making it themselves :rotfl: :rotfl::rotfl:

And very MSE of him to nick off with my book :p
"Who’s that tripping over my bridge?" roared the Troll.
"Oh, it’s only me, the littlest Billy-goat Gruff and I’m going off to the hills to make myself fat"

I cannot believe that all the times I have searched on here for authentic recipes all I had to put in was 'chinese food' duh!!!
    lmao:rotfl:
still - my family all say that MY chicken and mushrooms is miles better than the local chinese! (recipe from M&S book which got lost years ago).
also - I have had curries from different takeaways and the local one is outstanding - and it drives me nuts that I cant get it right! perhaps this book will give me a clue.
