Can I ask > Have either you or your father actually spoken to this man ? Maybe try that as a first step ?

I have a hedge at the front and am always picking cans out of it but not sure there is anything legal that can be done about it though. Maybe just have a word with the police ( the local office at non peak times) as sometimes they have neighbourhood watch advice or details of other groups to call for help.

Yep he spoke to him, said he knew it was him and could he stop doing it, the bloked completly denied it was him and has been continuing to do it since.

Police don't want to know, they said to speak to the council, council doesn't want to know, Dad just wants it to stop.

Ok my bad, I read "confronts" and thought of yelling at him or maybe getting angry etc rather then a calm chat.

Does your Dad know where this man lives ?

We used to get this at our old house, next door used to chuck their fag butts in our garden so I collected then up and put them on her front step. They were just horrid people, we had to put up with all sorts of abuse and loud music at odd times, we moved in the end to get away from them to discover they moved out about 2 months later.
Nothing to see here, move along.

I wasn't there so dear knows what dads said or in what way, but he told me that he told him to stop and that he knew it was him. Dad doesn't tend to get too worked up.

Although I'm not sure I wouldnt have yelled at the guy especially when he denied any wrong doing.

He thinks he's tracked his house down around the corner but he's not 100% sure.

BTW it is not unlawful to film or photograph on a public street. Or to film or photograph to use as evidence. OP your dad is not in the wrong.

He was told by the council that it was last month, and that if he did want to film he could only film his own property, had to have cctv notices up and a backup power for the cameras.

So he didn't want to do anything with the video incase he got himself into trouble.

When your dad spoke to the guy did he tell him that he has proof that it's him and if he doesn't stop it he will send the footage to the police? He doesn't need to know that the police or council doesn't want to know, just think that they might do something.

  • how strange, could the chap be sleep walking? (just a thought), is it obvious that a garden is the other side of the hedge? i.e. could he think it's waste ground?
Which bit of the council did you go to? I've heard of environmental health officers going out in the early hours for noise - why not rubbish??
Also I would log it with the police each time it happens, even if it's daily - as on going problems should be acted on eventually, surely?
