My midwife (even though i have not met her yet and get a different one at each visit) has U turned on my home birth plan.
Wont even entertain it.
I have been booked in to the birth centre (without me saying I even wanted it) I only found out by chance when I asked when do I get my birth pack delivered and my pethedine script.
Again I get every excuse under the sun from staffing, funding, wasting ambulance time if i need a transfer etc etc etc blah blah blah
The clincher was 'if your not booked for a HB then we wont send a midwife to you so if you want a midwife then you HAVE to go to hospital'
I feel like telling them to go f**k themselves and get an indipendant midwife
Head m/w at hosp told me that all you have to do if you want a home birth is ring them and tell them you're not coming in and to send someone.LilacPixie wrote: »Fuzz - clot was probably the remains of your plug.
Lauren - tell them your having a HB an to book you, they cannot refuse care
She is right, they are not allowed to deny you a home birth. Unless there is a strong medical reason I would tell them to sugar off.
eta HM you should have a business. Are there any purple names??Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0 -
Thanks Lilian, Hassle and Ema.
Good point about a nightie rather than PJs. I was in Asda just having a nose and they had an eeyore (big eeyore fan) 'boyfriend' night shirt. Not sure what that means and couldn't tell how long it was, wonder if I can get one unwrapped to see. It was £12. Is that a lot? How much are they in Primark? I have to go out of my way and pay parking etc to go there.Baby Giz born 6/2/110 -
Giz, they're about £4-£6 in Primark I think.My debt free diary | Post Office loan: £2131 1429.38 | Barclaycard: £4429 1988.12 | Paypal Credit £322.71 574.91 | Monzo Flex £169.03 |
Total £4151.44 | £2900.30 of £7051.74 paid off since diary started October 2024.0 -

Hi Lauren.
Try http://www.aims.org.uk/. There is a section under the 'articles' tab which talks about homebirth and gives advice on what to do if you are being bullied out of a homebirth. Hope this helps.

There are. My problem at the moment is baby-brain-itis. So I'm able to say what a name is, but I'm struggling to actually think of names right now (hence why we're stuck for boys names). I seem to have porridge in my head instead of brain cells.
I'll keep my brain ticking over today for oranges, greens, reds and purples.
I think sproglet is having a growth spurt again as I'm utterly exhausted. slept right through my usual middle of the night wee, so woke up bursting for the loo.If having different experiences, thoughts and ideas to you, or having an opinion that you don't understand, makes me a troll, then I am proud to be a 100% crying, talking, sleeping, walking, living Troll. :hello:0 -
Thanks HM and Claire fantastic useful website, thanks so much. If my natural bolshiness deserts me I will use theirs!
When I had my last homebirth (which was wonderful) I waited all day before ringing in as I knew it wasn't imminent. When I did ring, thinking I would need someone in the next couple of hours, they got in a panic and said "There's no one available you'll have to come in". I just told them to send someone when they had someone and lo and behold...not one but two midwives. Funny that! Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0 -
Hi all
Fuzz, glad to hear you are ok at least, and dilated!! Exciting! Am off to pick up my TENS machine from Boots now, got another sweep tomorrow so fingers crossed0 -
Well we went for our scan and it was AMAZING
When we got there TP was lying with their hands up by the chin and their legs were stretched right out but crossed over, it looked like they had really long legs so not sure where they get those form as both OH and I are quite shortThe sonographer was like “awwwwww look at it’s little legs crossed over that’s so sweet”
She checked the head, took the measurements which were spot on. Then checked the heart – it was amazing as we could see the four chambers and the central vestibule beating away. She then checked the spine and OH was amazed that we could see every little vertebrae in it – the detail was insane
Then she went down the legs, showed us the feet and went back up the legs. As she was doing that TP decided to turn full frontal towards usshe stopped just before she got to the naughty bits and she took a little breath and said “would you like to know what it is” – I looked at OH and he said “it’s your decision” and it felt like time had stopped and then I said “no thank you we would like a surprise” (Go Team Yellow!) after that she stayed well clear of that area .
I have put a picture on my FB but won’t be able to get one up on here for those who aren’t friends with me on there until I get home later – if anyone wants to add me then let me know and I’ll PM you my nameOne day Rodney we'll be millionaires£2020 in 2020 - Running Total £170 -
fairy that is great that it went so well, well done you for staying team yellow as well, it'll be a lovely surprise.
I've always wanted to know I find it much easier, been confirmed at all subsequent scans too just incase there was any doubt.
Giz I have PJs that are just a size bigger than normal and some maternity ones and the maternity ones are more comfy but the others do the job and are much cheaper. If you don't have a primark nearby there are places like peacocks as well normally have some in. I've bought maternity nightes from mothercare for less than the price of that one at ASDA. I'm taking 2 nighties and a pair of pjs to hospital, hopefully thats enough and I'll only be in 3 days.
Phoned my grandma at the weekend who had me all worried because I tried sat no answer and no answer sunday morning either, she answered after about a million rings on sunday afternoon and said she was in the garden. I still don't like her being all on her own. She was a bit worried about us only staying in 3 days and mentioned how you used to have to stay in 10 days even if it was a straight forward birth. People nowadays would go crazy being in the hospital that long lol Bless her she does worry though, I reassured her they come out to visit everyday at first too.
I still can not imagine brining a baby home, think OH is going to come to hospital and pick me up after the section but can't think about the baby too, how weird is that. Hopefully it'll be fine once baby is here. This time next week I'll have all my bags ready and be thinking about going in eek.0
