Ladies, anyone know much about expressing milk?
I've not had a chance to see a midwife yet and as such i've got all these questions milling about. Basically...
If I choose to express milk and not breastfeed directly - how is that going to be possible on the first day in hospital? I'll be in hospital for 3 days so... again... how am I going to make this possible?
I know the first 3 days as such will be colostrum coming through. Will this be something I could express say the day or two before my C Section is booked? And then freeze it?
Sorry, I have no clue and really want to make it possible for hubby to take part but also for baby to get the best milk possible.
Also - I lost a LOT of weight quickly breastfeeding my daughter for a mere 3 weeks last time (she was a greedy baby, I couldn't keep up with the demand) - Is expressing going to have the same effect on me losing weight as breastfeeding does? Cos as you can imagine, i'm keen for that to happen again!
Thanks for reading. I'm hoping i'll be joining you shortly!Beautiful Baby Boy born 28 April 20110 -

For the first time in many years (?ever) I am happy with my body and bump, it is doing something amazing, and I am really really going to miss being pregnant.

Random post over.
Wow Emsy, feeling the PMA, that was a really nice thing to post.
I won't miss being pregnant, no way. I don't care much for this constant pain in my lady parts and I want to walk, not waddle.0 -
Thanks Tickle. I'll give her a day or two and then send her a pm just in case she might have missed the post. Hope she doesn't mind. Just really want to figure this out.Beautiful Baby Boy born 28 April 20110

Hi EssexGirl:hello: Welcome to the thread and congrats on your Aries baby...I'm one and honestly, we are a little feisty but mean well!
So was this a planned one after 13 years or shouldn't I ask?
Most of my family are April born, so I'm used to being surrounded by them. DH and DS are but I'm a Scorpio, so it's an even match
No he/she was planned. I've got PCOS and have had LOADS of different treatments and been pumped full of god knows what drugs but to no avail. Then 2 years or so ago we gave it all up when they said we couldn't have IVF as we already have a child. One day I found out I was pregnant. It was a miracle. Sadly a few days before my 12 week scan I started bleeding. It was a misssed miscarriage and baby had died a month before. I then got pregnant twice more, but both of those ended in mc too. This one has held on so far (got everything crossed now). The weird thing is it's following the same date pattern as my DS. Scan dates, birth dates, spooky.0 -
*** Warning - PITY POST ***
I feel awfulgirls have very kindly shared their sick bug with me.... and the baby keeps kicking me in the stomach
:(:( -thank goodness DH is on holiday - although not much of a holiday for him
Does anyone know - if I am not keeping any food down does it affect the baby much? DH very worried and wants me to phone the doctors - I am managing to keep a fluid intake up and I am not constantly throwing up - just struggling to eat much. Not much of one for going to the docs me!
Hope everyone else is feeling ok :cool:DD1 - May 02 8lbs 6oz
DD2 - June 05 10lbs 6oz
DD3 - 24th Jan 11 7lbs 9oz

More advice on expressing definitely wanted here too.
Krystal?
2girls Poor you - I'd focus on fluid levels too to ward off dehydration. Baby will be fine and will get all the nutrients before you do if it has to use your fat stores.

Your baby probably won't feed much over the first 2/3 days and then after that it will be little and often....very often. But you do need to actually breastfeed to get your supply going (expressing and breastfeeding are two very different actions), expressing is also very much useless in the early days as the amounts will be small (were talking drops here) in all you should really avoid the pump for a good 4-6 weeks after birth.
Breast pumps are not great for getting the colostrum to flow either as its thicker, you dont really make much of it and going from boob, to pump to bottle for the sake of half an ounze is a time consuming.0 -
There was a good thread on the main board that debunked a lot of breastfeeding myths, what you dont get told and a million helpful tips....I shall see if I can dig it up.0

Good morning ladies,
Sorry, I'm in work so haven't got time at the mo to read back. Hope you are all ok.
I have a question. I went to see my midwife last night for the results of my bloods and it turns out my blood group is A Rhesus D Negative which isn't as common and I need to have Anti D injections? Can anyone shed any light on this?
On the plus side, we got to hear the heartbeat after a bit if digging. Baby was really down, close to foof
Oh, and I'm 18 weeks today and finally got my 20 week scan date for 3 weeks today. Yippee!!!! So cannot wait
