parcel delivered to my house but for wrong person

Options
had a parcel delivered to my house on monday with a name we dont know so i sent it back it came again tuesday so i sent it back wednesday i wasnt in so they left it with the neighbour so i decided to open it to see if the persons address was inside the parcel but it wasnt but i now know the company that sent it so i took this directly to there shop, they told me they cant take it you will have to phone customer services which i did they asked me to post it back to them at my cost obviously i declined and told them to pick it up we arranged a time and no one turned up.
My dilema is ive spent time and money trying to return this even though the said item is something i was going to buy but couldnt afford or do i keep it as the company cant even be bothered to pick it up as arranged. also is it classed as stealing

You need to make it available for them to collect from you but you needn't spend your own money returning it. If they choose not to collect it then you're not stealing it.

You dont have to put yourself out for them. You done all you can be notifying them if they dont wish to collect it then thats there problem.

I think after a while you might be able to keep it as a gift

Legally, what you should do is write to them and tell them they have a reasonable time period ( say a week ) in which to collect the item or you will bin it ( i.e keep it ).

I would have just left it at the store and told them to contact CS

That's a bit dangerous, it could go missing.

As it's not the OP property it's already missing.

...but as long as the OP hasn't paid for it, then it's not a problem for them.

As others have said, I would contact the retailer involved (by email if possible, a its 'free') and give them 7 days to arrange collection (time and place that is convenient to you). If it was over a certain value then the retailer should make every effort to retrieve the parcel.

Do you not need to give them 28 days?
