If you look towards the end of this article you will see this:-
On Tuesday the Home Office will announce plans to make it illegal to clamp or tow away a car parked on private property.
I hope it's true, and not just wild speculation by the paper.

Hope its true
really they are not needed at all as they only there like some vermin trying to blackmail money out of you. What is needed is a fully regulated private parking, with a completely independent appeal process, the current companies who try to scam should have no right to be allowed to operate in the new system. Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?0 -
Really hope this is true! :T
I just searched and found this debate - hwich I was not aware of - from 2 months ago:
http://www.theyworkforyou.com/debates/?id=2010-06-15c.847.0
...where the new Government promised to explore all avenues and seemed to intimate that the Crime and Security Act 2010 didn't go far enough. That's how I read these comments by Lynne Featherstone (Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Equalities Office; Hornsey and Wood Green, Liberal Democrat):
QUOTE
I want to make it absolutely clear that the coalition Government response actually tackles the problems caused by rogue clampers. The Act does not necessarily solve all of the problems, however, so I am looking at all available options as quickly as possible, including those not set out in the 2010 Act.

If it had been on the Daily Snail I'd have just laughed at the article but the Telegraph??? Maybe, at last, we'll catch up with Scotland.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Hope its true, but I'll believe it when I see it.0

A spin off would be they could also get rid of the SIA and save more money as well.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Don't forget the SIA also regulates private security guards and door bouncers. That function needs to be retained. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -
I can assure you that the report in the newspaper is INCORRECT.
The home office will announce plans to change the working practices of wheel clamping and towing away, together with tougher restrictions on the clampers themselves and appeals process.
Clamping on private land in England/Wales will remain.0 -
That certainly sounds more plausible, I guess we'll just have to wait till TuesdayLegaladviser_Muggerbee wrote: »I can assure you that the report in the newspaper is INCORRECT.

And we should believe a newbie poster with a weird name why? If this criminal scam is not outlawed hopefully the lowlife scum parasites who live off the misery of others will find it harder to live the life of reilly they have up to now. And of course it it doesn't work then it will be outlawed anyway. Heads you lose extortionist, tails you lose thief.0

The Mirror has this story now. The narrative is strikingly similar to the Telegraph:

Norman Baker is rabidlyl anti-clamper. This suddenly has a ring of truth to it.
And pathetic stuff by G&M about chaos followig clamping outlawing fools no-one. As is rightly said nothing happened in Scotland. Clampers are a solution in search of a problem. How can it assist with parking management to immobilise the vehicle that is causing the problem?
If it happens then bravo to the coalition. This will be very popular. The pondlife scumbag thugs who are too thick and lazy to get a real job will have to get off their fat !!!!!! for once.0
