i think Argos, like any seller, will say it is damage as a lens/lcd can NEVER crack without force so it's your fault.0
-
Ah, but the LCD isn't cracked, and if the OP has described it correctly, shows no signs of being cracked. A straight black line across the screen is very rarely user damage.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

Why? I'm not implying that you meant it for the OP to kick up a fuss, but this doesn't often work
By being in ear shot of other customers often works without causing trouble, just politely and assertively putting your point across. There's also no point talking to the adviser behind the counter if they are not helpful, you must speak to the store manager.0 -
Why not user damage?
I have straight black lines on a white screen and black patches but the manufacturer/seller won't repair as they say it's user damage.
When LCD screens are damaged, either deliberately or accidentally, there is almost always an obvious point of impact. Even if the outer screen has no damage, you can often see this on the inside.
For example: http://thydzik.com/images/canon-ixus-sd450-repair-canon-ixus-55-ixy-60-sd450-with-cracked-lcd-screen.jpg You can see there was a point of impact in the top left, with a crack spreading right across the screen.
Or here: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3072/2955559998_93cd123fbc.jpg?v=0 is smaller, but still a point of impact just below the line of the casing.
Of course it's possible for impact damage to show as a line, but for it to cause a single, dead straight line is a one in a million. This, for example: http://staff.pop3now.com/alee/badline1.jpg is clearly not user damage.
I'll admit I'm no expert, but I've seen enough in my timeSquirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

I know this, but how can a camera 'develop' this fault as the seller/manufacturer always say its damage. I ask because i have a camera which has done this after 7 months and they won't fix it.0 -
Not ideal, I know, but if the black line only effects the rear LCD screen, and not the camera sensor, the problem should not prevent you from taking good photographs with the camera.0
