Will the Operating System be on the Recovery Discs?

:) The Recovery Discs will return the whole system to the way it was when you first started it from taking it out of the box.

So anything that you have stored or installed on it since then will be gone.

So make a copy of what you want to keep.

Does that mean that there are no traces of McAfee or ZoneAlarm?

I used CTRL and mouse to highlight the log but nothing is happening. I'm unable to highlight the whole log, only one line.

Left click at the beginning of the log, press and keep your finger on 'Ctrl' and move the cursor to cover the whole document. Whilst keeping your finger on 'Ctrl', Right click and choose 'copy'.
