Ran Regscanner again then opened regedit but can't find the files I need - sure they were there last time - I can only see the HKEY ones, not the ones HKLM or HKCU. Have I missed a step?
Thanks for your patience Closed

on the bottom right of the regscanner filter, make sure all hk's are highlighted
you double click on the things found in regscanner, and it will go directly to the key in regedit.!!

I've got all the files in the scanner but double clicking (or right clicking and choosing open in Regedit) only shows the HKEY files and not the other ones. Think I'm going to reboot and see what happens then.BR 08/06/09 ED 10/03/10BSC member 2500 -
Nope, can still only see the HKEY folders in RegEdit and not the HKCU or HKLM folders picked up in the RegScanner. They've got to be there somewhere, just not sure where.
D'oh - just looked it up and HKLM means HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE so it is there! Feel a bit of a wally nowBR 08/06/09 ED 10/03/10BSC member 2500 -
Right, been following the paths but sometimes the folders aren't there. Think I'm going to have to stop and finish the ironing!

post the report again, or just change the h:\ to c:\
It shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes to do this, I'm not sure what you are struggling with?!!

OK, I can follow the paths a certain length along by going down the folders but then it starts to go wrong, for example
HKCR\VirtualStore\MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Patches\28C9EA2BB7CD1463FB8C7872C5F46370\SourceList\Net
I can follow the path down as far as SOFTWARE but then there is no Classes subfolder just a Microsoft subfolder.
I've done the ones I can but get stumped on these ones.BR 08/06/09 ED 10/03/10BSC member 2500 -
To explain what you are doing:
The registry is a list of settings, and pointers to files. You had less than 20 pointers mentioning h:\ when you posted the log, one of them is causing this problem. You've deleted the report, so I can't remember what all those pointers were, so I'm suggesting either put the report back, or change every one of the from h:\ to c:\ , if it is actually h:\blah blah, it needs to now be c:\blah blah
when you have done this, if the directory c:\blah blah isn't there, it may still fail the install, and that should be curable by creating a c:\blah blah directory, but worry about that later, because it may not be an issue.
when you do the regscanner, it searches the registry for all the pointers containing h:\
because h:\whatever doesn't exist, the installation is failing.
All you are attempting to do is change that pointer from h:\ to c:\
by double clicking on the scan result, line by line, which will open regedit at the correct pointer location, then change the contents of the registry key from h:\xyz to c:\xyz
You don't have to follow the paths, just double click on the scan results, find the key mentioning h:\ and change it.!!

My Regedit only opens at the top level and I have to follow the path down to the file. I am trying to do what you have suggested, the problem I have is in following the file paths.BR 08/06/09 ED 10/03/10BSC member 2500 -
Are you double clicking on the regscanner results, if it doesn't work on the first click, click again.
are there any references to h: here?
