ok, try changing the h: in this to c: (double click on the regscanner item to open regedit)

    HKCU\Software\Classes\VirtualStore\MACHINE\SOFTWAR E\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserD ata\S-1-5-21-1328569374-572596909-2530652007-1000\Components\7BC707BAE683D2049AAC4646CBC23ACE 5C49BC246F6636F4D813F73A8A46098A REG_SZ H:\ 21/09/2009 17:34:21 4

    if it doesn't work:

    quick workaround

    start run

    subst h: c:\

    then point at c:

Sorry, not sure how to do this, can't find a way to edit the long string and tried putting subst h: c:\ in the run box and its not made any difference - dongle installer still fails. Think I might have to take the laptop to the tech guys and get them to give it a service and fix both it and my hard drive! :(

PS read the edit and tried opening in Regedit but nothing happened

Tried again but going the long way round, through Regedit in Run then tracing the path way. Changed the h:\ to c:\ and now going to have another try with the dongle. Thanks and fingers crossed.

    oh no, wait.

If you've done the subst correctly c and h should be the same thing, and windows installer should work

    Ok, I've tried

start>found the run program> typed in subst h: c: (both with and without the /)>ok

got a momentary flash of another window which came and went in the blink of an eye but dongle still won't install.

When installing it comes up with the AutoRun.exe, then asks for permission, then loads the O2 installshield wizard but gets part way through before stopping with the error message 'Error 1327.Invalid Drive: H:\' then exits the Install program.

I'm really stumped! Its like it thinks its still connected to the H:drive although physically its not. Oh well, I've successfully loaded the dongle on my son's laptop so mine will just get used as a DVD player while I'm away and I'll get it sorted after I get back :(

Just done a bit of investigating and found an entry in Wikipedia which states Autorun/Autoplay aren't affected by the subst option so maybe thats why its not worked? I'll keep looking because its bugging me now!

Thanks Closed for your suggestions so far

    start, run

    cmd

    in the black box

    subst h: c:\

    note the spaces.

if it worked, then c:\ should look identical to h: in explorer, it it doesn't work, you should get an error in the black box, and it will be due to a typo.

If you look in the autorun file, in notepad, it will have an exe name, try running that

is c: the same as h now?
