look for the autorun.inf file, open in notepad, it's a text file, with a pointer to the setup program.

Couldn't find autorun.inf but found another autorun file and that had launcher.exe in it so I'll try putting that into run, is that correct?

Edit : just tried that and it said it Windows couldn't find it

you need to browse to the drive/directory where launcher.exe is, or look for a setup program

Tried doing a search of all files on the desktop and can't find either launcher or setup - which seems very strange :(

when you plug it in, it should allocate a drive letter, look on there.

That's the problem, at no point does it give me the option to allocate a drive - doesn't seem to get that far in the installation process. I know in previous installations of software (and when I installed the software on my son's laptop) once the Install wizard starts you get the option for the drive but it never gets that far with this one. The O2 connection manager prepares the install wizard but fails after preparing default.msi and opening the install window.

Think I'm just going to have to give up with this :(

The software is on the dongle afaik, therefore it will allocate a drive letter to the usb drive in windows, on that drive will be the installer, so look in explorer for the temporary drive letter e: F etc when you plug the dongle in, on there will be the autorun, possibly a launcher or setup.exe, and maybe an msi file, run it after doing the subst.

If windows installer is pointing to the h drive, then using the subst will or should hopefully override this little quirk of windows installer.

If it still doesn't work, post your regscan up again.

back to your h hard disk, does it work on your sons machine? by work I mean allocate a drive letter, and all files are visible.
