It's all gone quiet on here - are you all busy making/baking things or shopping?
I've started to put a few things aside to fill some Hampers for this year, got some tolietries etc and sorted out jars of my HM jam and marmalade that will go into Hampers, feel a lot better now I think I'm getting organised. Just need to decide on some themes for the Hampers and wherever possible I will use paper/ribbon etc that already have in.
How is everyone else doing?;)"WASTE NOT, WANT NOT!"GC for OH, myself, DD18 & DD16 includes Toiletries, cleaning stuff & Food.

Hey there,
I've not been doing much other than gathering ideas and jotting them down in my wee book! Must get my bu££ in gear!
Ive made a batch of chutney (spicy tomato) and Im doing another this weekend (apple, date & ginger) My plan is to do baskets for the men with chutney, oatcakes and cheese and maybe wine.Any extra chutney will go to the church Christmas fundraiser.

Usually i make up a hamper of goodies for my parents for Christmas, sometimes i buy a flower pot to put the hamper contents in, or a wicker basket etc. Yesterday when i was in home bargains i saw some funky trolley's (for shopping) for £5.99 each. The one i bought is white and has a big juicey pic of a strawberry on the front of it. Don't know whether my folks will be too embarrassed to use it in public but i thought it looked fun so i bought it and will wrap up the hamper contents and place them inside the trolley. Dad is now on oxygen and if he wants he can drag his smaller oxygen cylinger around in it...or get mum to do the hard work, LOL!
Anyway, just thought i'd mention it as some of you may be as wacky as me and want to use a funky trolley to put your goodies in!Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

I finally have enough tomatoes ripening to consider chutney with them. Hopefully this weekend I will get a small batch.
I think I may have to forget the sloe gin this year, as we haven't been to PIL's for a couple of months and I suspect they will be gone by the time we DO get there. (Anyone know how late they'd stay on the trees if not picked? It's an area where they don't seem to be used).
Otherwise, I haven't mmade much progress recently. But I DID make a few decisions about hampers for others. Rather than depending on work to do it this year, I am going to make up 2 myself and leave them in the Church right beside my car park for work - it is a reasonably deprived area. And I am arranging with the local coffee shop to get a bunch of their loyalty cards stamped up (I am paying the average price of a coffee - I think we agreed a regular cappuchino price - and he will stamp them up) so that the families who get the hampers can enjoy a family outing or a daily cup for a week. (It's a really nice coffee shop). And I am using what I have learned from the grocery challenge to get loads to fill it up so that it should last a family for at least a couple of weeks with no shopping (I am trying to figure out if the local veg shop and butchers might be able to do a voucher to add in too).GC 2010 €6,000/ €5,897

What lovely, generous ideas Winged one, true Christmas spirit!
I've been lurking for a while now, but would like to say hello and join in  I've been hampering for a while (birthdays and babies mostly) but have decided to give everyone hampers for Christmas this year as have made lots of jams and chutneys and acquired a stash of wool to knit into goodies! I've also started scouring charity shops and flea markets (when I am well enough)!
Two good buys found when doing an Asda on-line order yesterday: 4 miniature bottles of wine for £5 (there are some really good types, JP Chanet, Mateus Rose) lovely little additions to girlie or chill-out hampers, works out at just £1.25 each.
Also in their buy 4 toiletries for £3 section are some lovely bottles of Radox Sleep therapy bath bubbles, just 75p each - I got 2 along with a shampoo and conditioner from their selection, as I needed these anyway. The bubble bath is earmarked for relaxation / good night's sleep hampers. Following Teegansnan's link to the book site, I found that they also have relaxation cds for .49p each so I got a couple of those to add in. It's all starting to take shape now!
Have a happy day everyone!Stash busting 2014 45 / 60 (balls of yarn)!

:AHow unselfish of you:A - it's made me feel quite guilty that I'm only worrying about my family, when I know there are others out there who won't be getting anywhere near as much.
I used to work in a school in a relatively deprived area of inner city Leicester, one day one of my pupils came in so very excited - Dad had had a lottery win! about £50, the kids were getting a bag of real crisps - what do you mean? Walkers crisps! The rest was going to buy a cheap cooker from the second hand shop. Bless you for your compassion:TMust stop spending . . . must stop spending . . .0
