Aww tcr that is so sweet to think of your granny like that. :grouphug:
My grandad passed away 2 years ago and it still feels like yesterday.
We always celebrate Christmas early as the family are spread over the country...it's tradition!!
My mum makes christmas puds, nothing beats them (in my opinion!). Does anyone in your family have the cake recipe?
Have a go, i'm sure it will be therapeutic & you can start your own tradition!Married in 2016. Bought our first home in 2017. Expecting our first baby in November 2017

Hi tcr,
It sounds as though you have wonderful memories of your Granny.
This thread has lovely Christmas cake recipes and recommendations that may help you to bake your own and begin your own Christmas tradition:

Aww tcr ((hugs)).
Neither of my grans make Christmas cake anymore, or really bake much at all come to think of it. I think they decided they're a bit too old to be bothering with that now. Besides, they get given far too much of the damn stuff by other people!
I agree with the suggestion of becoming famous in the family for your own cake!0 -
Dear tcr.
You have such wonderful memories of your grannie, for example this Christmas cake story, so she is still with you and will be always. It would be nice to see if anyone in the family has the recipe then give it a go - carry on your grannie's tradition.

One thing I miss is my Granny's Christmas cake.
Well, that's not really true, it's more Granny I miss & the whole annual rigmarole of her...
Aww, me too! My granny didn't make wonderful cake but it was the whole experience of Christmas where the entire family would descend on my granny's house and be rowdy that I miss!
Sorry for being slightly off topic
I decided to make chutneys this year but then realised I hadn't been collecting jars! Hopefully it isn't too late to start!Weight loss: Start weight: 80kg; Current Weight: 77kg; Target weight: 55kg0 -
hello ladies, hope you dont mind if i join in, read the whole thread and i think there are some lovely ideas on here. got me thinking about some hamper gifts for people i usually find quite hard to choose a gift for. definitely going to do the xmas survival kit for my dad. i did something similar for his birthday, put together a bbq kit with a chefs hat, bbq seasoning, bbq recipe book, and a nice bottle of wine. didnt cost much but he was really touched because the thought was there. also my best friend, we both have children now so we buy for them not each other, going to make an xmas movie night kit for them.
i know its too early for some people, but i find if u get the tough jobs out of the way early, then december can be spent enjoying the build up and spending quality time with family...0 -

Aww TCR what lovely memories. My MIL makes us all a Christmas cake every year . I'm whispering this bit, I'd love to have a go myself but I think she'd be mightily offended - I might make a small one and swear DS to secrecy so we can both make one
Last year she decorated it for DS with a picture of the snowman she made out of icing was fab, it's on my blog somewhere last December !!
