ive been comping now for 2 days and i am just abit worried that ive regestered for loads of different things and obviously they now have my details is this safe?0
-
I have only been comping since May this year but have had no problems.
You could possibly open a separate email account (yahoo or hotmail) just in case you do get any spam but if you ensure that you check or uncheck the appropriate boxes before submitting this does not seem to be a problem. Any newsletters that do get through usually have an unsubscribe option at the bottom.
I do know that some people alter their date of birth by a month or so which helps prevent identity theft and this may put your mind at rest.
Good luck - I hope you start winning soon. :beer:Thanks to all OP's your efforts are much appreciated :A0 -
To be honest, if your entering competitions that are posted on here you should be alright.
A bright bunch on here and most can spot a dodgy site a mile off!!
Remember to be careful of the tick boxes aswell. Your details should be safe though.
I have been Entering Competitions for nearly 2 years and nothing bad has happened.So.....
GOODLUCK & Happy Entering.
I do agree with above though, make a separate email account for CompingAsk.. Believe.. Receive..

Hope you're enjoying comping and finding the boards a friendly place to be
Promoters use competitions to either get you read/buy something or to gather information. For example, magazines and wrappers (biscuits/drinks) will use competitions to promote their products and sell a larger quantity, if you were to win a prize you would feel more positive topwards the brand. These competitions will usually ask for date of birth, name, address and telephone number to verify your age and to send your details. these ones I would say are safe.
Other ones, which may include signing up for a websites newsletter, providing details of when insurance expires etc they are gathering information to advertise/try and sell something to you.
Compers on these boards are very good at spotting competitions which may seem dodgy or send alot of spam and will post if they find anything untoward.
It comes down to the information you are willing to give somebody exchange for the chance to win a prize, and if you think anything looks dodgy or doesn't feel right, just move on to the next xompetition there are plenty to enter listed on here by our lovely dedicated compers (:A)Comping wishlist for 2017

Just curious if you found out what the answer was.0 -
I've had no bad experience at all through comping, everyone on here is friendly, only drawback is trawling through 100 odd emails a day in the hope of finding a winning one(only cos I miss half the tick boxes though!) Really hope your new hobby proves good for you and hope you have your first win soon.:)Bestof2013-AcerLaptop,years supply of Lindt chocolate,Family to Spain,£500,13 bottles of Wine,iPhone 5,2 night island break,Pedal Bike&Helmet,HuntersWellies,TomTomGPSWatch,3 bottlesVodka

Hi
I don't use this thread much so I hope I've mentioned this in the right place and it's not been mentioned too many times before.
I use the "ive entered" button quite a bit, it's really useful but I've found that the green tick doesn't show on a post if it happens to be at the top of the competition page.
Does this happen to anyone else? Also does it need reporting to anyone?

You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -
the only bad thing is alot of spam emails, which is why its good to have a seperate email addie for comping
most of them are good though, the thread starters wouldnt post them if they had an inkling they were dodgy, most of the competitions are from well recognised sites, most of which always run competitions be it puzzle magazines, other glossies, newspapers, regular sites, itv, big companies etc
i have been comping since january and i went full out at first but due to alot of spam emails and having to clear out inboxes alot i now just do the puzzle magazines, itv comps and other things i really want and am registered at sites for, so all i have to do is log in and fill in the details
how many competitions do you enter a day, i can manage about 60 odd but alot of the compers enter over 200 a day which is great if you have the time, since january i have won a 500 shopping voucher, a kenwood smoothie maker and an ipod nano, i did take a break for a while but im back up to about 50 a day, i entered about 140 competitions at the weekend just gone
remember you are entering competitions alot of other people are entering not just on this site but other comping related sites also, plus the regular readers of said sites, also remember the expiry date of competitions might still be a long way off, keep trying, be patient and best of beginners luck to you0
