  • I have a small house problem too so fully sympathise. For summer clothes and spare quilts just recently I tried vacuum bags! They're great, can't understand why I didn't try them before. I had a great time packing stuff into them - it was almost a case of watch out cat else you might get vacuum packed too :rotfl: Now I've run out of things to pack for the time being.

Just recently there has been a good offer on TV also ebay is a good source though I got mine in the sale at Argos. When I got the idea I couldn't wait for them to sent to me I had to get them straight away :D

I agree with you, they are brilliant for storing duvets and pillows too :T

I store all the bedding (inc cot quilt and cover, pillow, fleecey blankets, sheets) for my grandkids travel cot in one of those as well. It still goes in the ottoman/blanket box but it just doesn't take up nearly as much space this way PLUS it keeps it all together I just need to grab the ONE bundle of stuff when it's needed :D.
  • if you are after cheap storage then I suggest heavy cardboard boxes, put a sticker on the front writing what's in them, ey presto... I have this system in my understair cupboard and it works a treat: box with pasta, box with tinned tomatoes, box with baking items. Maybe not super elegant but no one sees it and it was free!

Thanks - I have vacuum bags for the spare duvet and pillows, but no more hanging space left (OH took over the spare room wardrobe with his coats/jackets/suits!) I don't really have the floor space for boxes at the mo (until the grand clearout) and boxes full of tins will be heavy for me to lift from shoulder height down wverythime I want something.

We keep soooo much junk and I'm in the mind to have a very good clearout (i.e. anything we can't live without GOES!)

This is soooooooooooooo true. I've struggled with tidying up for years, and have only got on top of it when I decluttered :o Try the Declutter Thread for more help, ideas and inspiration.

I pack away my summer and winter clothes into the loft when they're not being used, in big vac-save bags. It's like having a new wardrobe twice a year :j

I'll add this to the existing storage thread to keep ideas together.

In my experience standard drawers have flimsy bottoms, so wouldn’t do well under the weight of vegetables, how about something like this http://www.legendcookshop.co.uk/erol.html#7876x0&&http%3A%252F%252Fwww.google.co.uk%252Fsearch%3Fq%3Dvegetable+rack%26ie%3Dutf-8%26oe%3Dutf-8%26aq%3Dt%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla%3Aen-GB%3Aofficial%26client%3Dfirefox-a or this http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/8753397/c_1/1|cat_10197552|Storage|10197771/Trail/searchtext%3EDRAWER.htm ?

link to first one won't go straight to the one I meant, it's the 3 tier chrome one, second row on the right for £22.01

The 3 tier round one for £16.63 is exactly like the one I've got for fruit - except mine was about half that price from a local cookshop!

Just checked further down - the rectangular 3 tier one is the same as one I've got for veg, and that was about half price at my local cookshop too (less than £10 anyway)

Thanks - i never understand putting winter/summer clothes away for months! I wear vest tops and t-shirts underneath jumpers in the winter, and wear jumpers and jeans in the cold damp summers :rotfl: I can understand holiday stuff and big coats though! I daren't even look in our loft - we're ina rented house for just under 18 months but i bet its chocka already! I have Friday off work (haven't told OH!) so I'm trying to find the most efficient way to clear as much as possible in a short period of time! :j

BTW - is there anything I can do with thousands (well, dozens!) of carriers I've stored up? A few are useful and I used to use the supermarket ones as bin liners, but I don't have the supermarket ones anymore, just the WHsmith style, which don't stretch over the bin edge - I hate the thought of them going to landfill!

I take your point, but you did ask how to deal with 5 bin bags of clothes :p I don't have that many in total since I've decluttered. Also, I bought no clothes at all last year, and very few the year before, so that helps loads to reduce the amount I have.

I've packed away shorts, thin trousers, thin skirts, summer dresses, sandals, sun hats.

I will pack away thick jumpers, winter coats, scarves, woolly hats and gloves, boots.

My jeans, t-shirts, medium weight jumpers will stay throughout the year.
