The Great Declutter - 18 months on

Well, the old thread has got so long, it needed to be closed, but as the great declutter is still going on, I have started a new thread.
18 months on, and I am ashamed to say that I haven't got very far. I was doing well, but I have a small business, and made a bulk purchase of greetings cards that are now filling two bedrooms
This wasn't helped by a local warehouse closing, and selling off all their stock, and yes, you've guessed it, I bought lots, so may now have more clutter than I did when I started
Hope you are all doing better than me :rotfl:

This thread is a continuation of Enough is enough - the great declutter, which is now closed

In :
Clothing - work stuff (smart trousers, smart tops, new boots the other day)
Stationary - starting an NVQ and working in a school on placement so needed a folder, dividers, pencil case etc (all bought cheaply though)
Out :
1 pair of broken boots which would cost more to repair then to buy new ones:rolleyes:
Sanity :rotfl:

I joined this thread some while back with the best of intentions; but somehow the clutter is still there.
I do a bit every week and things do look better and I do feel more sorted BUT I still see a small mountain to climb.
All my friends think my house is tidy and organised, which is true it does look that way, but it's a bit like that proverbial swan!
Saying that I have sorted out clothes for the whole family. As summer seems well and truly over I decided to sort things out and look towards Autumn. I went through everyones wardrobes and checked what will fit next year and what won't. The children were brilliant about this, especially DD who eventually had to part with some things she's been hanging on to that haven't fitted for some time. She's a teenager now and age 10 stuff just doesn't fit!!!
I have sorted them and they went to charity - Oxfam - so M&S vouchers; re-cycling - clothes bank and of course ebay.
I'd love to tackle the loft before Christmas, but we'll see, it's a big job.
keep going everyone, it'll be worth it:D0 -
Ok just re-read post and it's not too positive in some respects... I have come a long way and for that I should be very pleased.
I have made the start and that's the hardest part I guess.
Little things can make a big difference...:T1 -
oops didn't chuck anything but more stuff came in.
I bought a sun parsol and table and chairs and base for the parsol and I have no where to put them apart from out in a room. It would have cost me £75 but got it at 75% off so cost me £18.75 and I ready for next summer :rotfl:
I might have to go through a couple of cupboards and see what I can do.

I really need a big fat declutter. I think my clutter breeds
. Problem is we live in a very small flat and hubby and i are hoarders. I am better than i used to be and am becoming quite ruthless, but as fast as i throw stuff out, new things appear to take their place. Will try harder...

still throwing out in my little messy corner of the world too.. I will admit though I am feeling we have made massive inroads to being clutter free.. My bedroom is the worst room in the house now which isn't as important as when it was one of the reception rooms which was literally unusabe due to the amount of guff in it.
I have a nice shiny new room to use now and can even have people over to stay because it contains a sofabed.
I am also new to college too and it is so much easier coming home and being able to get away with a quick vacuum round and straighten up and there is a clean tidy room to relax in..

I know how you feel. Me and my husband use to live in a one bedroom flat and we where jammed packed with stuff. The reason I choose a pine frame bed was so I could ram even more stuff under it :rotfl:
Then we moved in a three bed house and we have bought/acquired some more stuff. And we there is still only two of us and we still have a house with cupboards jam packed.

I keep promising myself to start the BIG DECLUTTER, then I start to do a little bit, something happens and I get disheartened and it all goes back to how it used to be......
So now I'm going to use the new issue of this thread to 'come clean' and declare myself - I WILL GET MY HOUSE DECLUTTERED:
Start point is the bedroom. As soon as DH & I have finished the new cupbaords (maybe tonight?!?) I can make a start on the HUGE pile of clothes which used to be my 'floordrobe' and are now heaped up in DSS's room (good they they are not coming to stay for a couple of weeks - can't even see their beds - LOL). I will be ruthless and only put away stuff I actually wear....stuff which doesn't quite fit will go in suitcase in loft, stuff which really, really doesn't fit or I really don't like will go to the charity shop.
After the bedroom will come the loft room...but I'm going to take it one room at a time!

Still decluttering and I agree with gunsandbanjos about clutter breeding! I'm sure it does as I just keep freecycling, ebaying, bining and I don't seem to make a dent.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera.
