Thanks, you're brilliant! I think I am going to ask for an appointment, at least with his English teacher, especially as when I met her at the end of last year she didn't appear to know who he was. Will have to go through my files and drag out all his reports so far so that I am sure in what i'm saying.
We did discuss the artifically high Y6 SATS and to be honest, it can happen with KS1 SATS too (although when I said that she said "Oh, I wouldn't think that what happen when they are so young!" grr...what do you know, you don't know what happens in your own school, woman!!!) but I would imagine by Y9 he should have moved on somewhat.
I think part of the problem is that he is so quiet he may be overlooked, if you know what I mean. I know this definitely happened in primary school. His year six teacher focused on the "look at me" children and told me he was about average and would "probably manage Level 4s" then was very surprised when he got all level 5s and scored the highest test scores in Science and English in his year group.
His tutor this year even said "Oh, he only has two merit points. I would have expected him to have more than that but the ones who misbehave tend to get the most points when they are good for a change. Those that are always good seem to get missed out". I wish I had reacted to this but was just so flabbergasted that she said it. I DO know what she means as it seems to happen in my school too but I try to address it and give plenty rewards to those who are always good.
Off to dig those reports out!0 -
Sounds like a good plan of action - I would def go and meet head of year and then see what they say as they will then have checked with all the teacher s- this will also make the teachers more aware of him and his ability as he may still be overlooked. you could mention the whole merit thing to the head of year as they should be encouraging merit giving to the good ones, particularly in year 9 (sorry I know I'm preaching to the converted lol!!).
Good luck!

Try Littlewoods Bingo on topcashback - tracked and paid out no problem for me a couple of months ago (I think it was £20, each for me & OH), and the prizes were actually good - I won £130ish!
I do exactly the same with the autoplay. And the 'mute' button is essential as well. I love reading the chat window: '4tg', '3tg' - addictive stuff!!!0 -
Thanks Panda, I'll try that one at the weekend maybe. Don't want to do too many at once!
More ebay stuff finishing today. One book has bids up to £20.47 and I only paid £12.99 for it when it was new. the price is clearly marked on the cover in the photo. I sort of hate it when that happens as I don't want the buyer to feel ripped off or disappointed when they get it! I'm also waiting on something else being paid so that I can withdraw £50 from Paypal - sitting at about £41 at the moment.
Spent last night sorting / organising OH and my wardrobes and drawers. I think decluttering can get addictive - no matter how much I think I've got rid of I can always find more. Wish OH would get addicted to decluttering. he hates to throw anything away. When I was on the phone to him last night I asked how many years back he wanted to keep his trucking magazines. he sounded flabbergasted and said he wanted to keep all of them. He also has a drawer full of painty, ragged, washed out clothes - apparently for when he does DIY. Now how many old clothes do you need for DIY? Especially as I don't let him paint anymore because he's so slapdash. I can imagine if anything ever happens to me and he is left living alone he will be one of those old men found in a house surrounded by billions of old newspapers and dead cats!0 -
Your OH sounds just like mine! :rotfl:
He's a hoarder, I'm a chucker.....and yes, he has a drawer full of 'DIY clothes', in fact he has one pile of 'painting clothes' and another pile of 'gardening clothes'.....grrrrrrrrr!!
AND he is slapdash with his painting too - I only let him do the base coats, and then I do the top coat properly!"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
Lol, nice to know I'm not alone! I have to wait for bin collection day to throw things away as I know if he sees anything, no matter how rubbish or unused it is, he will rescue it from the bin. If I absolutely won't allow it back in the house he'll either put it in the shed (where I don't go) or takes it to work - goodness knows what he does with stuff there!0

My oh is just the same, with him the worst thing is bits of paper from work. we both seem to take notes or write phone numbers on scrappy bits of paper, or envelopes. i throw mine away every week and he keeps all his. god knows howhe thinks he will know what all these messages will mean or what the numbers are 5 months later. If i try to throw them away you would think i was binning £20 notes! i even tried to make him use a note book but was told that was girly.DFW NERD NO.656 DEBT FREE 24TH NOVEMBER 2010 TOTAL DEBT AUGUST 2007 £39000MFiT T2 NO.56 WE OWN [STRIKE]25%[/STRIKE] 31.5% OF OUR HOUSE SO FAR!0

Really good avon offer in Martin's email this week. Ordered 10 items, used a code for free delivery and 10% off so ended up paying £9 for 10 things. Good if anyone is doing hampers, or just for your own home! Also went through Quidco so hopefully 15% cashback there. I wonder if companies like this are pleased or annoyed when mentioned in Martin's emails??
EDIT: £1.35 tracked on Quidco so hopefully that's 10 items (shampoo, kiddy detangling spray, handwash, shower gel and more) for £7.65!! Paying the full prices would have been £31!0 -
Oooh, lunar, you sneaked in there while I wasn't watching! Yup, my OH does this too. And keeps ancient lottery tickets (why not just throw them after you've checked them??) and balance readouts from the cashpoint and plane tickets from everywhere we've been and expired membership cards and receipts for minor purchases such as newspapers (does he think he might want to return one, one day?!?).
YET... he keeps his wagon immaculate and is always buying cleaning stuff and new duvet covers for it! (Can't remember how old our duvet covers are but one set has a load of buttons missing off the bottom!)
I'm sort of the opposite. Like everything in it's place at home but my desk at work is always a tip (well, children put things on it all day long and I don't like to throw it away when they've been so kind!!!)0 -
We are definitely married to the same man! I'm sick of scraps of paper with numbers on, and the other day he refused to throw out a ticket to a show we went to last year.....we have a tiny little house, and I swear one day it will burst at the seams!"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250
