I am making my own. It is fairly easy but gets a little more difficult if you have patterned material and need them wider than the width of your material as you have to match up patterns more than once (unless you have narrow windows this is probably likely as you need approx double the width of the window to get the right look). You just need a little bit of patience.
The most important advice I can give you is measure twice, cut once - there is nothing more gutting than cutting your material in the wrong place and not having enough to finish the job. There will be loads of people out there who know what I mean!!
If you google 'making curtains' you will find loads of advice.
Personally, I tend to go for a standard pencil pleat (don't cut the pull threads just tuck them away neatly) and I like a full length curtain so tend to go for around a 72" drop. Also, iron and pin everything before sewing (remove the pins as you sew). Maybe consider making a small pair of unlined ones for a hall window or guest bedroom first before you embark on a major project.
Good luck0 -

Finally managed to get my Visa Debit order through online - #3 son want's black, so i've ordered 'coal' - a pewter grey - 8 metres (he's got very wide windows which are quite shallow, so I'm hoping to use the 54" width as the 'drop' if you understand what I mean). Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

I received my fabrics, but was surprised that even the 2m pieces came on the cardboard rolls! The weight extra for the postage was rediculous, and I now have 5 huge cardboard tubes to dispose of! But the fabric was lovely. I actually came accross this offer in "the sewing room" thread on here, and have also been redirected to here. I do love MSE!When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0
