Have you checked your system info to see if you have a network adaptor?
I had exactly the same problem with Netgear Router and had incorrect settings under Netgear Basic Settings - have you checked this?Torgwen.....................

1) I've been into Control Panal
2) Pressed Network then configuration
3) Have AOL adaptor (ISDN) Conexant USB Network Adaptor ( normal ASDL modem, which works perfectly - supplied by e7even) Dial Up adaptor,Microsoft Virtual Private Networking Adaptor.
4) When I try to use the wireless modem (using connection cable to my desktop nothing new shows in the configuration column.
I'll get there........catch220 -
How are you physically connecting your desktop to the wireless modem? What type of cable are you using and whereabouts into your desktop are you plugging it?
For it to work your Network connections should have a Local Area Network (not listed in (3) above). This is what the NIC will give you.
What do you have listed in Device Manager under Network Adapters?
Useful if you could download Belarc Advisor (google for it) and paste here the entries you get for "Main Circuit Board" and "Communications."

If you are using Netgear router you would be better off using the FA311 ethernet card. This is a PCI card which easily slips into the back of your computer and costs just £5.99 asnd includes the ethernet cable to connect your main computer to the router/modem. Once fitted the computer will recognise it automatically. Job done.Middlers0

Middlers - That's what i'm going to do or buy a USB 2 adaptor, thanks. I'm not very technical but according to you all it's easy.
Toxteth_OGrady - Thanks, good site. Don't know what most of the results meant
but good.catch220 -
It would help enormously if you could paste the Belarc data for Main Circuit Board and Communications here. If you could also answer all the questions in my previous post, should be able to get you started.
Without those answers, any troubleshooting to help you is a bit of a leap of faith!!

Main Circuit Board
Bus Clock: 66 megahertz
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. 062710 07/15/97
Communications
HSP56 MR [Modem]
AOL Adapter
Conexant USB Network Adapter
Microsoft Virtual Private Networking Adapter
Network Card MAC Address:
Network IP Address:
With the Netgear I get all the above except : Conexant USB Network Adapter
(this is being used by the normal ADSL modem supplied by e7even.
The modem supplied by e7even has a USB to USB cable which the Netgear wireless modem/router does'nt have. I connect ethernet to ethernet, usb to usb,one from modem to phone hub. Do exactly the same connections with Netgear except the usb-usb.
Hope this helps and thanks..catch220 -
Looks like you don't have a LAN (NIC) connection - not installed anyway.
The reason I asked you to check Network Adapters in Device Manager (not answered) is the same reason I asked you to check Belarc; I suspect you may have a NIC fitted but not enabled/working (either pci or integrated into mobo, which is why I'm trying to establish what your mobo is).
In Belarc under Main Circuit Board there's normally 3 entries, Board, Bus Clock and Bios. You only posted 2. Is there an entry for Board?I connect ethernet to ethernet,
When you say this, where exactly in your desktop PC are you plugging in the ethernet patch cable? That infers that you have an RJ45 socket in your desktop which in turn suggests you have a NIC.
Not patronising you, but could you please take in quick look in the Techie Terms Add/Ask sticky thread and confirm that the ethernet cable you're using looks exactly like the patch cable picture in one of the posts in that thread.
Bit of a flog here but may be worth it as it may transpire that you don't need to buy any more hardware.

No entry for board in Main Circuit Manager.
Can confirm ethernet is indeed a ethernet. There are two USB hubs and a slot next to it which fits a ethernet cable BUT I have just removed the cable and nothing happened(normal modem) so obviously there is no connection via Ethernet.
Other devices shown in Belerac are as follows:
EPSON USB Printer (EPUSB1:
Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural Keyboard
Conexant USB Network Interface
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
HSP56 WDM COMMUNICATION DEVICEcatch220 -
I suspect you have a motherboard with integreted ethernet LAN. 2 x USB and 1 x RJ45 together is the normal connection layout for this. In fact I'm not aware of any pci cards like that.
So following on this train of thought, the reason your ethernet connection is not detected will be because it's disabled in the Bios.
Are you happy how to check in the Bios and ensble it?
