Interview with insurance our car was stolen..

Hi everyone I have an interview with our car insurance company tomorrow as my husbands car was stolen from the driveway. I was the last person to drive it and I am a named person on the policy. They want me to have the V5 document, my driving liscence and also the mot cert to hand when I speak to them. I am absolutely petrified now because my liscence is still in my maiden name and the V5 has my husbands old address on instead of the current one - will they decline the claim on these administration issues. I was going to update my liscence but my husband and I have been separated on and off and I wasnt sure if we were getting divorced (long story wont bore you with it) so didnt see the point in ammending it though I know I should have.
Any positive help and advice would be much apreciated.
Thanks

Ok, you are breaking the law there but probably not enough to cause any real problems.and the V5 has my husbands old address on instead of the current one
again, another law broken but probably not enough to cause rejection.
I wouldnt be surprised if they are more interested in your financial position or if you can supply both sets of keys or not.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The important thing is - was the car insured at the correct address?
They are basically checking whether you are fraudsters which you are not.
I would be totally honest with them about your relationship issues.
They don't give two hoots about your personal issues, they only care if you are scammers or not.
The people coming will be trained to know if you are being honest or if you are lying, so the last thing you should do is lie.
Be honest about the administrative mistakes and your reasons for them and you should have nothing to worry about.
They will know you are telling the truth.
I don't think your maiden name will matter (you can prove who you are with a marriage certificate). You can also call yourself what you like as long as there is no intention to deceive.
The V5 really ought to be updated in case there are speeding offences etc. but the really important thing is that the car was insured at the correct address.
The postcode is related very closely to the risk, so it's important that the insurer had the correct address.
Otherwise try to relax and just be honest.0 -

Thanks for replying. Basically he lives with his parents and has been since he got the car which was 2 years ago, I live in his house with our children. The car is insured at his parents address which is where he lives and the car kept. The car is registered to my address which is his house - he still gets his mail sent here as his dad has the same name as him so it is easier. Hopefully I will be able to afford to buy the house off him or get my own place in a few years but he is quite happy for me and the children to live here for the time being.
Naively of me, I didnt realise this would be so involved but obviously they will want to know the ins and out wont they!
Why would they need to know about our financial position? We both work, earn ok money and are not struggling though we do have some debt which is being paid off and the mortgage payments have never been missed? What would they be looking for?
thanks again0 -

What dunstonh is getting it, is that if you have money problems they might think you've dumped your car somewhere to claim the insurance money.
They have to rule this out. It's their job.
Remember the person talking to you wants to believe you are good and honest people, it's just their job to check for obvious signs of a scam.
I know it's stessful but they are trained.
It's natural to feel stressed and even a bit guilty even though you are innocent.
They can tell the difference between a stressed honest person and a scammer.0 -
Thanks guys, thats exactly what I feel, guilty. I feel guilty towards my husband though we are separated, he let me swap cars that night so I could fit all of our childrens stuff in as they had stayed over at his and my car is a shoe box and couldnt fit the double buggy, travel cots etc in. Furthermore there is no courtesy car as it wasnt in the polciy, so I have inconvenienced him further as he has no car for work etc.
Now I feel guilty that we hadnt ensured the documents where updated properly. To be honest I have been a nervous wreck since this happened and I feel Ive made the bad situation between us alot worst.
At the end of the day alls I can do is tell the truth, our situation is a bit strange I suppose but it is real. If they pay out I have no doubt he will buy another car with the money and as for being scammers I wouldnt know to start even if I wanted to.0 -
our situation is a bit strange
You sound like a normal couple to me.
They will know within about 5 minutes that you aren't a couple of chav scammers.0 -
You can see why they want to look at it though more closely.
1 - driving licence in wrong name
2 - Vehicle registration at wrong address
3 - Stolen from property that belongs to the owner but doesnt match recorded address on insurance.
All possibly explainable but on paper without the background known, they raise alarms.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). What law is being broken?
She can be known by her maiden name and is under no obligation to change to hubby's name AFAIK. Unless you can link to something that tells us different. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

I was under the impression that you had to use your legal name on the driving licence. If you choose to use your maiden name then you can do so as long as that remains your legal name but if you choose to take your husbands surname then you need to change passport and driving licence to match your legal name.
You cant flit between the two as it suits you without completing the necessary legal documents.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
