I've had two rescue staffies. My current one, I had from age 3, through East Anglian Staffordshire Bull Terrier clubs, rescue section. I was looking to originally own a pup, but couldn't say no, when I was asked about him. He is now 10, and has been the most wonderful, patient, and kind animal around my children whom I had a year or so, after taking him on.

My rescue Staffie is from Leicester Animal Aid at Huncote in Leicestershire, not sure if that's too far for you?

Ultimately its always the humans to blame, and I do believe there should be some draconian laws on dog ownership, but I doubt that will ever happen.

Just like with babies, any yingyang can knock one out, doesn't mean they have the skills and wherewithal to bring the kid up.

I would like to see effective well thought out dog licensing system and a cull of all unwanted dogs unless re homed within 30 days.
But I will live in hope as the govt made a dogs dinner of the dangerous dogs act, badly thought out knee jerk law and very badly implemented.

I would like to see the backstreet breeders who keep breeding these dogs because they think they can earn money from them, Chucked in a council pound for 7 days after being beaten abused and breed.
from until they are worthless and then after their 7 days are up,

(Because thats all the dogs get unless they are reclaimed or countless small rescues find enough money to put the dog in emergency boarding, assess , chip, neuter and de-flea them and then try and find them a foster home or permanant home)

watch them taken into a room with their tails wagging, glad for a bit of human company and then watch when a lethal injection is pumped into them and they breathe no more. Hundreds of dogs a pts everyday because they continue to breed death that figure includes puppies and lots of these dogs are perfectly healthy and some have problems because of what a human has done to them.

A lot of these dogs lose their lives because there is far to many born every year and it needs to be controlled. Only then will you begin to see a drop in dogs and cats being pts. One particular rescue organisation doesn`t even neuter it`s dogs before they are rehomed after doing their 7 days on "Deathrow" and so the cycle continue`s.

  • If anyone on this thread feels motivated to do so, printing off some of the leaflets linked to earlier (the link is www.sbtinfo.weebly.com) and popping them in places where staffy owners may pick them up, it would be a very constructive thing to do - and may just make a tiny difference!

Not everyone who breeds their staffy is 'bad' - but many are totally unaware of the extent of the problem, or how their actions can impact on the bigger picture - so why not try and make people aware?

its sooo sad seing all these loveable dogs in need of a good home

i have a staffordshire bull terrier girl and she is the most obident loveing and friendly dog i have ever had she is nearly 7 and dread the day that she goes to doggy heaven even tho she has plenty of life left in her

i bred her once when she was 3 but that was because family members and friends wanted a puppy and wanted to pass on her excellent temperment and health and also wanted family and friends to get a pup that i knew was perfect for them.. after quite a lot of money spent on my girl and pups and i mean loads of money my friends and family got their perfect pups and i did not charge them for a pup so i was not in it for making money

it sadens me when the staffs get a bad name at the end of the day its how the dog has been treated and brought up!!

my girl is part of my family and one of my babies even though she can be a pain wen she needs a wee at 5 in the morn but i wouldnt change her for the world and i would never have another breed of dog if i was to ever have another dog

i would also go to a rehoming centre to offer a dog a life of happiness :)

My sister got her dog from Babbington rescue. Didnt realise you were in that area. Have you looked at half way rescue?

Thank you hethmar, I hadn't heard of this one so am just going to have a quick look now before I go out. I thought I had exhausted all relatively local rescues but you guys are great! You've come up with plenty more for us to have a proper look at later. Thanks so much :j

    Oh my God

On page 7 there is a lad called Jowbee who has been returned BACK to the centre... reason why? For 'weeweeing indoors in front of his new owners'.

How bloody heartless can some people be? How could you possibly take on a dog in need and then return him for something like that? No wonder this thread is called 'feel like crying' !!!!!!
