Thank you, I'm having a look through now.

I'm very depressed this morning I have to say :( . I usually try and keep that british 'stiff upper lip' when searching through the shelters, but feel a bit overwhelmed today. Why can't us good folk have a decent lottery win that would enable us to set up in some huge mansion somewhere, and comfortably keep about 50 dogs each?!

We tried to rehome a Staffy from the RSPCA, to go with our other dog from the RSPCA. Unfortunately the staffy just kept attacking our other dog and she made him miserable, and actually just before taking her back she really did attack him badly :( We only had her 48hrs, and she was a lovely dog, great on walks, and so loving towards us.. Such a shame, although she did get rehomed with a couple the same day that had no other pets or children.

I must admit, it put me off them. If she could be so lovely to us, and then behind our backs instantly set upon our other dog that wasn't even near her, then I dread to think what she would have done to a child.

They are apparently great with kids though! The best dog to have around children (or so I heard).. but it's the rehomed one's that can be unpredictable I guess.

We managed to rehome another pooch, an old 11yr old :) always remember Taz the staffy though :)

... loads and loads of dogs dislike other dogs and will have a pop at them - it has absolutely no correlation to how they will be with humans - as you have already said, this girl was great with humans, just not keen on other dogs...

I am very surprised that the RSPCA didnt advise you not to leave them alone unnatended for the first week or two as a bare minimum!!

We are telling ourselves we must be patient until the right dog turns up. It would be very simple to choose our 'favourite' breed and pick a cute cuddly pup from any newspaper ad, like many people do. But that is merely adding to an already out-of-control situation. We don't want a cute cuddly puppy anyway. We really really want to help a dog that desperately needs a new home. We're after a female, aged over one-year-old, who will get along nicely with our little Patterdale. We will sway towards the older dogs that tend to get overlooked in shelters because of their age.

We did take one old girl for a walk on sunday, from a shelter nearby. She was in a kennel with another dog, and the staff member we spoke to told us she was fine with all the other dogs, yet when we were walking her and we passed any other dogs, she would growl and lurch towards them snapping. So that was soon the end of that. I wanted to give her a chance, take our dog down to meet her and see how they got on, but DH was adament he'd 'seen enough' and tbh I know it put him off. He said he did not want to take any risks with Bruce, our current dog, which I totally understand.

Many Tears also have fostered dogs all over the country. When you go to their site, make sure you scroll down a lot as the first page or so is other info, then you get to the photos and description of the dogs. And there are literally dozens of them.

    Bruce :) awesome name!

You will find one I'm sure.. Although it's hard as we took our dog to meet the staffy from hell, and they got on fine, even the first 24hrs were no problem, just afterwards the problems started.

The dog we got was 11 yr old female, and she was a bit skinny and her coat was all greasy.. erghh. She had only been there a week as the previous owner didn't have time for her. After about 6 months with us, and a 3mile forest walk everyday, as well as trying to keep up with the 5yr old Jack Russell she was in amazing condition, a lovely thick ginger coat and so muscly and fit. :)

It took us a while to find her, but she fitted in great!

Just keep going, try not to get upset and just remember that you are helping the situation, and soon will have 2 rescued doggies.. much more than some people, who only go for the easy puppy option x

Doris Banham always have loads and loads of staffies - is it their page you saw? If its any consolation they are brill, very dedicated and never put a healthy dog down - even if it is a staffy.

While that is very admirable, ultimately I dont think its helping, re-homing a Staff is always going to be problematic, they need knowledgeable confident owners and from my own experience they are few and far between. They are a wonderful breed of dog in the right hands.

The internet is full of ads for staffs and pitts, it doesn't take long to find ads which are obviously ads for pups from fighting dogs.

Perhaps it would be a better solution to PTS the lot as they come in I wonder what the successful re-homing rate is.
